Story & Lesson Highlights with Kierra Crawl of Dallas

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Kierra Crawl. Check out our conversation below.

Kierra , really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
I’m most proud of building my future self. It’s the quiet, everyday work that no one really sees — volunteering weekly, staying involved in my community, and choosing to lead with kindness and generosity. These aren’t things I broadcast, but they’re deeply important to me. Even if only a few people notice — like my husband — it’s the personal growth behind the scenes that I’m most proud of. That’s the foundation beneath everything I do, including my business.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Kierra Crawl, the founder of Lab Roots Skincare. I come from a background in science as a former medical lab scientist, and I’m also a licensed esthetician — so skincare isn’t just my passion, it’s something I’ve studied from both a clinical and hands-on perspective.
I created Lab Roots Skincare to combine the best of both worlds: lab-backed formulas with clean, effective ingredients that actually work. Every product is developed with a deep understanding of skin health, rooted in both science and real-world experience with clients.
What makes Lab Roots Skincare unique is our dedication to results, transparency, and education. We don’t just sell skincare — we help people understand it. Our line is specifically formulated to target hyperpigmentation, acne, and support sensitive skin with corrective solutions that are both gentle and effective.
Beyond the brand, I’m committed to giving back. I volunteer weekly and stay active in my community, and those values of care and connection are woven into everything I do.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I believed I had to find “my thing” — like life only allowed you to choose one passion and stick with it forever. I worried about boxing myself into a single category, afraid of spreading myself too thin or not being “focused” enough.
As I’ve grown, I’ve realized that life is much bigger than that. I believe God created us to be multifaceted, not confined to one mold. I’m a creative person with many passions, and what’s beautiful is that those passions can work together in harmony. I’m a former medical lab scientist who loves science, skincare, and all things beauty. Instead of having to choose between those, I get to encompass them all in Lab Roots Skincare — a natural, effective, and corrective skincare line.
I’m incredibly proud of myself for no longer believing I have to limit my joy to just one passion. Life is richer when you embrace all the parts of yourself.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, absolutely. Owning a business comes with its rough patches and seasons of burnout. What keeps me going is remembering why I started in the first place — the people I’ve helped feel confident and great about their skin. Burnout is very real, and I’ve had to teach myself to appreciate the quiet moments, give myself permission to step back, take a break, and celebrate the small wins along the way. Those moments of rest and reflection have been crucial to keeping my passion alive.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
One truth that guides me daily but I don’t often say out loud is that growth is a lifelong process, and it’s okay to be imperfect along the way. I’ve learned to embrace the idea that progress isn’t always linear, and that showing up for yourself, even on tough days, matters more than being perfect.
Another foundational truth is that giving back and serving others enriches your own life in ways you can’t measure. I don’t always talk about it, but volunteering and community involvement aren’t just things I do — they’re essential to who I am. They remind me of the bigger picture and keep me grounded.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I truly believe that God brought each of us here to serve in our own unique way. For me, that calling is expressed through Lab Roots Skincare. It’s more than just a business — it’s my way of serving others by helping them feel confident, cared for, and valued in their own skin.
I don’t see this path as something I was told to do, but something I was led to, step by step. Every part of my journey, from my background in science to becoming a licensed esthetician, has prepared me to live out this purpose. Serving through skincare allows me to combine my passions and my faith in a way that feels authentic and fulfilling.
This work is a reflection of a deeper calling — to make a positive impact not just on skin, but on people’s lives. That’s what I believe I was born to do.
