Story & Lesson Highlights with LaNese Brown of Dallas

We recently had the chance to connect with LaNese Brown and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning LaNese, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
These days I’ve been trying to follow a new routine! Does it always go as planned, uhmmm no, but I’ve been doing better lol! I start off after my skin routine with reading or studying a bible plan from my app , scripture or devotional! I have honestly found this to be a very good way to set the tone on most days along with a 10 minute meditation! I then follow up with listening to some sort of podcast or sermon that caters to the space im in that day ! The podcast usually takes me into my morning drive to the gym , drop my son off or whatever task I have that particular morning!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am LaNese Brown mom, motivational speaker , life coach , mentor , podcaster, serial entrepreneur and soon to be therapist! A lot I know lol. As of right now I am in the rebranding process. From reformulating my coaching programs , restructuring my podcast, getting ready for my fourth annual conference, enrolling back into the masters program to being a sports mom in the pre season, you name it I’m doing it ! Last year in my third year of my conference I expanded my brand “IMPACT” into “Impact The Lifestyle “ because I realized making an impact was more of a lifestyle for me rather than just a name for my conference. This year’s theme “Grieving What Was” is in honor of my brother that was murdered on January 5th of this year . A lot of my rebranding comes from the lack of consistency during these months of grieving so I decided to come back stronger than before!

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
This is going to sound weird but the closer I get to forty the more powerful I feel ! lol I mean I’ve had a lot of moments where I’ve felt extremely powerful, but that’s all they were , just moments. As of late I feel like I exude power! I feel like it’s now a state of being , my aura! Once I reached thirty five I started gaining a new level of wisdom and a different understanding of self . My decision making has changed, the ways in which I hold myself accountable has changed, even the way I take care of myself. This wisdom has birthed a new level of confidence and reassurance and has awakened a deeper perspective of power and I love it ! lol ! Being able to trust myself is powerful !

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
How many times ! This year alone took me down a downward slope. Losing my brother January 5th sent me into the worst depression ever! I lost all motivation and inspiration to do anything productive. I gave up on all of my projects and it honestly took a lot of prayer and self discipline to get back to myself. The way you feel can’t determine what you plan to achieve! There’s always going to be times where you’re not going to feel like moving forward, and there’ll be times where you might have a couple of reasons to give up, but that’s when your “why “ has to kick in! In my case my “why” was worth working through my depression and putting up a fight for!

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
One thousand percent! I have mastered the uncomfortableness of authenticity! I found a healthy balance between personality and intimacy. I learned that finding balance allows you to fully embrace your personality when you apply boundaries as it relates to over sharing. A lot of people have to cover who they really are with a public “ persona” because they haven’t learned how not to over share . I have boundaries in my personal life just as much as I do with the public parts that I choose to share ! Therefore everyone gets the real me !

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Of course , I do it now! Most of the things I do comes from a deep understanding of wanting to be loved and treated a certain way . I’m always trying to treat people how I want to be treated as a first thought and in today’s world that’s often looked over and hardly ever acknowledged. No one praises you for being a good human lol. People often feel like they’re entitled to the good of others even when offering no reciprocation. The outreach I do through self or Impact The Lifestyle is a commitment to alms and sheer compassion that many people don’t even know that I do and I’ve never sought acknowledgment for . It’s a dangerous thing to always need praises from others . We all want to be seen , understood and even praised from time to time, but it shouldn’t be what fuels you to give your best in the world.
