We recently had the chance to connect with Lizi Quinn and have shared our conversation below.
Lizi, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
After three weeks of non-stop travel, my calendar needs a nap! But honestly, it’s been such a joy – concerts, workouts at the gym, and friend time that keeps me laughing. And when I’m home, nothing refuels me like serving at my church home.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Lizi Quinn – a Star Wars enthusiast, an Independent Sales Director with Mary Kay, and proud advocate for women. My business may look like skincare and makeup on the surface, but to me it’s about something deeper: confidence, community, and creating choices for women.
A big part of what I love sharing is that every purchase made through my Mary Kay business supports the Mary Kay Ash Foundation, which funds initiatives I’m deeply passionate about – domestic violence prevention and cancer research. As a domestic abuse survivor myself, this mission is personal. Knowing that the products I share with women every day are also fueling meaningful causes makes the work I do feel bigger than me.
At the end of the day, my business is about more than beauty products – it’s about impact, empowerment, and showing women that no matter what they’ve been through, their story has value.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I once believed I wasn’t a leader because everyone described my younger sister as the ‘natural born leader.’ It took me a long time to realize leadership isn’t about titles or personality – it’s about influence and growth. I love John Maxwell’s reminder that ‘Leadership is influence – nothing more, nothing less,’ and Craig Groeschel’s belief that ‘Everyone wins when the leader gets better.’ Those truths remind me daily that leadership is something you develop, and I’m committed to growing in it for the sake of the people I serve.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
One of the defining wounds of my life was being in a 10-year abusive relationship. Almost three years ago, I made the decision to walk away – a choice that completely changed the trajectory of my life. Healing hasn’t been quick or easy, but it has been worth every step.
Therapy has been a lifeline for me, and it’s something I still invest in today. I also plugged myself into my local church, started serving, and surrounded myself with new friends who became my safe, healthy community. I’ve been intentional about building friendships that lift me up, and I’ve learned how to create boundaries and prioritize my own well-being.
The scars remain, but they’re a reminder of God’s healing work in my life. I no longer see myself through the lens of what I went through – I see myself through the hope of who I’m becoming.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
Smart people often miss it when it comes to priorities. Mary Kay Ash created this company with the values of God first, Family second, Career third – and I think that’s as timeless as it gets. Success means nothing if your faith and your family are crumbling. I try to live by that framework every day, because it keeps me grounded in what really matters.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What are you doing today that won’t pay off for 7–10 years?
My daily skincare habits – like cleansing before bed and never skipping SPF – aren’t flashy, but they’re the kind of little choices that add up. I may not know exactly where I’ll be in a decade, but I do know I’ll still look like I moisturize.
