Story & Lesson Highlights with Mary Bennett

We recently had the chance to connect with Mary Bennett and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Mary, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: Who are you learning from right now?
I think I learn the most every single day from my clients. I see my clients In some of their worst, and best moments. I see them push themselves, grow, yearn, explore, cry, scream–and be vulnerable and honest. I learn to lean in to difficulties, push through hard emotions, and to see the day with hope and grace. I am deeply humbled by them, and profoundly grateful.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Mary Bennett, a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S) at Luxx therapy! We have offices in North Richland Hills and Fort Worth, and I am the clinical director of the Fort Worth office. At Luxx Therapy, we believe in the power of compassion, accountability, relationships, and expertise to create meaningful change. Our mission is simple: to help you find your light. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, depression, relationship issues, or life transitions, we provide individual, couples, and family therapy tailored to your unique needs. With a team of highly trained clinicians, we’re here to guide you toward healing, growth, and hope. The name ‘Luxx’ comes from the Greek word for ‘light,’ and our tagline, ‘Find Your Light,’ reflects our mission to help you reconnect with your inner strength and vitality.

We carefully chose our team to reflect the diversity of our community because we believe everyone deserves access to compassionate, high-quality care. Meet the people who are here to walk alongside you on your journey to healing and hope.

As for myself as part of this team, I have a passion for helping adolescents, women, adults, couples, and families navigate challenges like anxiety, depression, life transitions, and relationship struggles. Using evidence-based approaches like Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and mindfulness techniques, I provide a safe, nonjudgmental space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings, and goals. My mission is to help you uncover your strengths, build resilience, and create a more fulfilling life. I am also a board approved LPC Supervisor and passionate about helping LPC Associates refine their skills as they embark on their careers. I think you (the client) are the expert in yourself. My ultimate and most important role is to support, encourage, and cheer you on as you move through your life towards the best version of you–a you have always wanted to be. I also know the importance of learning and implementing skills–and learning and growing your skills to help in this evolution. I use this combination to help support you and build our relationship. I like to build long-term relationships with clients, to help them through the issue that brings them into therapy to begin with, but also to help them explore the reasons deep down that started the patterns and help resolve them. I use humor, humility, and vulnerability in emotions to help clients connect.

I earned my Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of North Texas and have extensive experience working with chemically dependent individuals and leading Intensive Outpatient and Partial Hospitalization programs in hospital settings. My diverse experience allows me to address a wide range of concerns: from mild stress management and growth and development in your life, to emotional regulation, trauma work and substance abuse recovery.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
It was my former clinican parter in Substance Use rehab—the therapist who somehow saw straight into the heart of who I was long before I could. He wasn’t just skilled; he was transformational. I watched him sit with people in the darkest moments of their lives and offer them something they thought they’d lost forever: hope, dignity, and a path back to themselves.
And the strange, beautiful thing is that he did the same for me.
He poured into me with a sincerity I didn’t know how to accept at first. He believed in me with this unwavering certainty, like he could already see the therapist I was meant to become. He trusted my voice. He saw strength in me and he pushed me—gently, relentlessly—toward a version of myself I didn’t even know existed.
He saw me with a clarity I didn’t have for myself.
He held up a mirror to the parts of me I was too afraid to claim, and he never stopped reminding me of who I could be.
He is the one who saw me—truly saw me—before I ever learned to see myself as a professional, as a therapist, as a teacher.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
When I think about someone I admire for their character—not their position or power—it’s my boss (owner of Luxx therapy), Kaylee. What moves me about her is that everything she does comes from a place of genuine care. She doesn’t just talk about empathy and connection; she lives it. You can feel it in the way she listens, the way she shows up for people, and the way she never loses sight of the human being in front of her. I admire her because she is truly invested in our clients—not in the abstract, but in the real, day-to-day way that shows she wants them to grow, heal, and rediscover themselves. She leads with honesty, compassion, and a kind of integrity that’s rare. She chooses people over profit, growth over convenience, and truth over comfort. That kind of character is powerful in a way no title could ever be. And she pours that same heart into her team. She believes in us, pushes us, and supports us in becoming the therapists—and the humans—we’re meant to be. She sees potential before we see it ourselves. She creates safety without needing to say it. She models the kind of courage and compassion she hopes we’ll offer our clients. I admire her because who she is aligns perfectly with what she does. Her character is her leadership. Her empathy is her strength. And her unwavering commitment to people—clients and therapists alike—is what makes her extraordinary. She doesn’t lead from power. She leads from heart. And that’s why I admire her so deeply.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What are you doing today that won’t pay off for 7–10 years?
What I’m doing today that won’t pay off for 7–10 years is investing my heart, time, and energy into helping my boss expand our practice—into building something that I believe is profoundly good for the world. We’re not just growing a business; we’re growing a place where people who feel lost, ashamed, or forgotten can find light again. Every hour spent planning, training, refining, and dreaming about the future of our practice is a long-term investment in healing—healing that will reach people I may never even meet, but whose lives will still be changed because of the groundwork we’re laying right now. Expanding into Fort Worth is part of that vision. It means widening the circle of safety, connection, and hope. It means bringing our way of doing therapy—rooted in empathy, integrity, and genuine human care—to a larger community that needs it. And maybe most importantly, it means allowing my boss’s ideals, her values, and her heart for people to ripple outward even further. We’re building something that will matter years from now. Something that will outlast the day-to-day effort. Something that will quietly change the trajectory of countless lives. That’s what I’m investing in now—something that may not fully pay off for 7 to 10 years, but will leave a legacy of healing long after.
