Niccolas Jones shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Niccolas , it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What battle are you avoiding?
One of the biggest battles I am avoiding right now is my issues with anxiety and depression. It’s been a silent battle that I dealt with my whole life and I tend to use my creative skills to battle and ween myself from it. I am a creator in writing, acting, music and fashion so I always have something I can turn to that will keep me steady and strong and motivate me to keep going and keep moving forward
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Niccolas Jones and I’m a man of many hats lol! I go by Nicc, Big Nicc or N’kredible. I am a father of one 17 year old son name Za’Marion Jones , I am a writer, actor, model, brand owner, etc. I have been a writer since age 12, I went from writing poetry to writing music, to writing , short stories , to now working on my own movies and series. I’ve been in Dallas, Tx my entire life but born in Oakcliff, Tx. My whole life I was deemed “unique” and I would say it started with how my name is spelled “Niccolas” and they way I move and do things in life. I’ve always been known to be a creative and do things differently to where people question if it’s the right move or if what I did make sense lol! I’m somewhat of a person who is playing chess on a checker board.. people tend to think I’m playing the wrong game, when I am just playing my game
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest memory where I felt powerful was when I did the last big photoshoot I put together and directed for my brand. I felt powerful because of the turnout and the amount of people that showed up and supported me and also the outcome of it. It felt good to see people trust my judgment and direction and also be willing to wear and showcase items that I personally created!
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
Man, that is a real question there! I would say that it would have to be after my first anxiety attack. It was something that I had never experienced so when I did I quickly adapted and researched what I needed to do, to battle it and make sure it doesn’t happen as much! I started writing more, started meditating and what helped the most was making items and clothing for my brand! Somehow putting my ideas and creations out for people to see can be very peaceful and calming , to a point where if I’m in a bad mood or stressed! It will calm me and put me in a better place
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would most likely say that what matters to me the most is my son, my brand and making sure the people around me are good! My son is a big part of my living and my happiness and I could say my brand is the same. As far as the making sure the people that are around me good part , gets on everyone’s nerves lol! I’m often told that I care too much or I work too hard to please people and I worry about other’s happiness and well being over my own at times…… yea I gotta do better lol!
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
I think what people will misunderstand the most is why I am or wad nice and friendly to everyone I encounter. I grew up dealing with bullies and people feeling like they were better than me or that I was small compared to them, so why would I go through life treating someone who hasn’t hurt or harmed me personally? You never know what people are going through and you also never know what saying one wrong thing could do to someone or what it could trigger so I try to to be the shining sun through a person storm and cloudy day!
