Story & Lesson Highlights with Randy Asubonteng of North Dallas

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Randy Asubonteng . Check out our conversation below.

Hi Randy , thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I like to start my mornings intentionally. I wake up early and give myself a few quiet moments to pray and reflect; it sets the tone for everything. After that, I stretch or do a quick workout to get my energy flowing. I’ll brew some coffee or make a light breakfast while listening to a podcast or some calm music. Then I review my goals and plan the day, making sure my priorities are clear before work begins. It’s a mix of movement, mindfulness, and preparation that helps me stay focused and in a positive mindset.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a data analyst and the founder of Thick Smoke Hookah, a premium mobile hookah company bringing a fresh, upscale vibe to events across Dallas and beyond. We’re known for turning hookah into an experience, creative flavors, sleek setups, and unforgettable atmospheres. Right now, I’m expanding with “A Shisha Experience,” a series of curated events designed to blend culture, music, and premium hookah in a way that truly stands out.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I believed I had to have everything figured out early that success meant following one set path without mistakes. Now I know growth isn’t linear and that every twist, setback, and new direction shapes who I am. I’ve learned that purpose unfolds over time, and it’s okay to evolve and redefine what success looks like.

When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
I stopped hiding my pain when I realized vulnerability could be strength, not weakness. Instead of letting struggles define me, I started sharing my story and channeling those experiences into my work and relationships. That shift from suppressing to embracing turned pain into a source of purpose and resilience.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I’m committed to building Thick Smoke Hookah into a brand that creates memorable experiences and a lasting community no matter how long it takes. For me, it’s more than a business; it’s about cultivating spaces where people connect, unwind, and feel inspired.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
People may think my legacy is only about business success, but it’s deeper than that. What I truly want to be remembered for is how I poured into others, serving Jesus, loving my family, and inspiring people to pursue their purpose. The hookah brand and ventures are just platforms; the real legacy is the impact on lives and the faith that guided it.
