Story & Lesson Highlights with Shanice Wilkinson of Downtown Dallas

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Shanice Wilkinson. Check out our conversation below.

Shanice, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Reflecting on past challenges and worries now brings a sense of gratitude and quiet fulfillment. What once felt overwhelming has diminished with time and experience. Beginning as a solo endeavor, the business has grown steadily, as I enter my fourth year as a tax business owner.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Meet the Face Behind Your Favorite Tax Lady

With over a decade of experience providing trusted tax preparation services across the Metroplex, Your Favorite Tax Lady is now four years strong as a recognized brand. What began as a tax preparation service has evolved into a comprehensive service bureau dedicated to supporting and scaling tax businesses into six-figure enterprises.

Today, we serve as a mentorship hub and software provider, empowering tax professionals to grow their market presence and build sustainable success through strategic guidance, consistency, and proven results. What sets us apart is our commitment to transparency. We don’t rely on clickbait or misleading tactics to attract clients; instead, we focus on creative, out-of-the-box marketing strategies that genuinely capture attention and deliver value.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
Clients who trusted my expertise and abilities from the very beginning, even as I was still learning my way. Strangers who offered unexpected encouragement, opportunities, or recognition. Close friends who acknowledged my strengths and motivated me to keep moving forward.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Advice to My Younger Self:
“Pour into your own cup first. Don’t be afraid to prioritize yourself being ‘selfish’ in this way is necessary to show up fully for others. When you invest in yourself and win, those around you benefit and succeed alongside you.”

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, I believe it is, though I don’t always show my full personality to the public. People may see a focused business owner, traveling professional, or devoted parent, but once I’m comfortable, my playful, kid-at-heart side comes through.”

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say that I was passionate and loving about my work, and that in every storm, I stood tall. I stand firmly for what I believe in I’m easygoing by nature, but never one to tolerate nonsense. I’ve lived life to the fullest and aimed to make a meaningful impact on everyone I encountered, whether through business, offering words of encouragement, being a guiding light, or helping others believe in themselves.
