Story & Lesson Highlights with Yolanda “MissCotton” Sharper of Duncanville TX

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Yolanda “MissCotton” Sharper. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Yolanda “MissCotton”, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
I am proud of building several successful businesses that serve my community in spite of being an adult with autism.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Yolanda “MissCotton” Sharper. I grew up in the rough streets of Oak Cliff, and faced many challenges, but I did not become a product of my environment. As a child in school, they noticed I had problems socializing with the kids, and I needed speech therapy. It was later discovered that was on the autism spectrum as high functioning. I have an uncanny ability to effortlessly create art in every form, whether it is styling hair, actually painting a canvas, creating music, acting, or having perfect comedic timing on stage.
I am a certified master herbalist that was taught natural medicine and herbalism by my Native American grandmother as a child. I am a healer.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship that most shaped how I see myself is the one that I have with my 9 grandchildren. They are a beautiful reflection of me, each in their own way. They motivate me to always put my best foot forward and move with integrity, because the are watching ‘Yaya.”

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one thing to my younger self, it would be, “Buckle your seatbelt, grit your teeth, and don’t give up.” Life is going to be a bumpy ride, but your destination is beautiful and amazing. Push through. It will be worth it.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I admire my husband, Boudreaux for his character, and not his power. He is a big strong tall man that commands the room with his larger than life presence, but he is a very disciplined, loving, humble man that cares nothing about the material things of this world, including have clout or social status. His goal is simply pleasing our creator, and giving back to his community.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
If I retired most, my clients would miss the beautiful warm vibes of my hair salon, and the banging hairstyles that I provide along with the love and advice.
