We’re looking forward to introducing you to Tamia Forrest. Check out our conversation below.
Tamia, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Integrity, because it’s the only one of the three that can’t be faked. Integrity is the foundation. It’s what makes others trust you and what gives your actions a lasting impact. You can be energetic and intelligent, but without integrity, your success will either collapse or come at a high ethical cost. Then energy to stay consistent. Use intelligence to refine your direction. But all three together is POWER!!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Tamia Forrest a Licensed Esthetician and Licensed Master Social Worker, and the founder of Body Magic Beauty Bar. I specialize in facials and waxing services that are rooted in both skincare and mental wellness. My passion lies in serving others through non-traditional therapeutic experiences combining beauty, touch, and self-care to support emotional healing and confidence.
As a social worker, I’ve witnessed firsthand how easy it is to experience burnout, especially when self-care is neglected. That inspired me to create a space where people from all walks of life can feel cared for, confident, and safe. My services are not just about skincare they’re about restoring peace, promoting emotional release, and reminding people that self-care and mental health go hand in hand.
After spending over a year as a proud stay-at-home mom, I truly value the importance of time, support, and bonding during the postpartum period. Many mothers return to work after just a few short weeks, and as a mental health therapist, I know how much that contributes to postpartum depression. Thanks to my background, I was able to advocate for myself and my baby during that time and now I want to pour that same care and advocacy into others.
Currently, I provide both mobile services and work in-spa at Massage Luxe in Wylie, TX. At Body Magic Beauty Bar, every service is customized to each client’s needs, blending corrective skincare with a touch of magic. The magic isn’t just in the glow of your skin it’s in how you feel: confident, calm, seen, and supported. That glow includes elements of resilience, empathy, mindfulness, and self-worth.
Looking ahead, I’m working toward earning my massage therapy license and plan to offer massage services in 2026, expanding my mission of promoting wellness inside and out. Because when you look good, you feel good, and I believe that’s the real magic.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The part of me that has served its purpose and must now be released is the version of myself that constantly poured into others without prioritizing my own rest, boundaries, and healing. As a social worker, a new mother, and someone deeply rooted in service, I used to feel guilty for slowing down or taking time for myself. But I’ve learned that I can’t give from an empty cup. That mindset helped me survive but it’s not the version of me that will help me thrive.
Now, I’m releasing that cycle of self-neglect disguised as selflessness. I’m embracing a new chapter where rest is sacred, self-care is non-negotiable, and I lead by example showing others that healing, joy, and wholeness are just as important as hustle and service.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me how to be still, how to listen to myself, and how to truly feel. It showed me the strength in vulnerability and the power of slowing down. While success often validates us externally, suffering forces us to look inward. It taught me compassion not just for others, but for myself.
As a social worker and esthetician, I’ve seen how pain shows up in different forms stress, burnout, self-neglect, insecurity. My own struggles reminded me that healing isn’t always glamorous, but it’s necessary. Suffering taught me that wholeness comes from honoring every part of the journey, not just the highlights. And because I’ve been there, I can now hold space for others with deeper empathy and purpose.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
A cultural value I protect at all costs is community care. In many cultures especially within Black and Brown communities we’ve survived and thrived through shared support, collective healing, and looking out for one another. I carry that with me in both my social work and esthetics practice.
I believe healing doesn’t always happen in isolation it happens in safe, loving spaces where people feel seen, heard, and valued. Whether I’m offering a facial, a listening ear, or a moment of peace, I’m always creating an environment where people can be their full, authentic selves without judgment. That sense of belonging and mutual care is sacred to me, and I protect it in everything I do.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Yes, I could and I have. So much of what I do comes from a place of purpose, not praise. As a social worker, a mother, and a service provider, I’ve learned that the most meaningful work often happens behind the scenes, unseen and uncelebrated.
My best doesn’t depend on recognition it’s rooted in the impact I know I’m making. Whether I’m supporting someone’s mental health, helping them feel beautiful in their skin, or just holding space for them to breathe, I give my all because it’s part of who I am. The reward is in the transformation I witness, not the applause I receive.
