Tess Hevener & Amber Laird of Fort Worth on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Tess Hevener & Amber Laird. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Tess & Amber, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
We are SO proud of building the culture of this team- 2Girls1Brush represents inclusivity, fun, creativity, true connection and growth. Our team is a close knit group of girls who truly value one another, share ideas, chat about anything and everything trust one another. This allows us to create a safe environment for every bride with a true connection. The vibes here are immaculate!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
We are 2Girls1Brush Beauty- a team built on diversity, inclusivity, fun, making women feel beautiful and building true connections. Tess & Amber met in 2020 at a wedding they were hired for independently and the rest is history. We truly had no idea we would end up partnering together, let alone building this entire team. We quickly realized we had something special and over the years, we have found other artists who share our vision. We feel like we are set apart from the crowd as we create such a unique environment- from the moment you step into our super pink storefront to the moment we are hugging you goodbye on your wedding day! People come to us for the vibes, the comfort & the GLAM!

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
I have to take a moment to recognize the partnership that we have built- Tess & Amber- the duo who created an empire from a chance meeting in 2020. Through the struggle of starting businesses during the pandemic to growing pains in creating a time, finding artists who believed in our brand and growing beyond belief, we have believed in one another. It’s hard to find a true partner in business and having someone have your back and believe in what can be done is truly unmatched. We wouldn’t be here without one another!

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Throughout this entire journey, we have learned SO many lessons. Faltering, not making everyone happy and making mistakes is what has led us to where we are and helped us to learn how to push forward. A success is not built overnight and certainly not built on being successful every single time. We have had to learn what works, what doesn’t and what needs to change and this has been our biggest building block. You aren’t going to please everyone and not everyone will like you and that’s okay!

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
What you see is what you get!!! We truly show our honest and true selves in all of our videos, content, captions, posts etc. We want brides and clients to see who we really are and choose to work with us because they love what they see. In this day and age, so much of what is online can be fake and/or produced and we always want to put our true selves forward.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
We (Tess & Amber) have both worked several different jobs in our lives and we both believe we have truly found our calling. We aren’t corporate girlies at all! For me (Tess), there has been many years of going with the expectation= college, grand school, job, etc. When this business started, it was just for fun and on the side for both of us and now here we are, doing what makes us happy every day. Amber never knew this could be a career until we started building and it blew her mind!
