We’re looking forward to introducing you to Trevoy Pointer. Check out our conversation below.
Trevoy, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: When was the last time you felt true joy?
Recently, I was out on a walk, just reflecting on my progression and where I’m headed. It was one of those moments where you pause and really feel gratitude — first to The Most High for guiding me, and also to myself for actually taking action and learning from every situation along the way. That clarity reminded me that my trajectory is strong because I’m intentional about it.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
At 35, that’s an interesting question to answer because my story has a lot of layers. I’m a passionate human, a father, and a former athlete who transitioned from the sports world into corporate sales and entrepreneurship. Helping people improve their lives has always been part of me — sometimes even when I wasn’t in the best position to help myself.
I grew up in Dallas, Texas, went to college in New York, and spent the last 10 years working in insurance and personal finance. Along the way, I’ve had over 10,000 conversations with people, which gave me a deep understanding of mindset and human behavior. My perspective is simple: listen first, then help someone become the best version of themselves so they can reach the life they actually want.
My brand isn’t just about making money — money can be made anywhere. It’s about building a strong foundation: your mindset, intentions, habits, discipline, and your ability to persevere in the darkest times. I call it ‘walking through the fire’ to get to where you want to go. I teach people how to master themselves so they can break free from the systems that hold them back.
I’ve built a six-figure skillset that gave me the freedom to improve my mind, body, and spirit, and to pursue my purpose — the one The Most High gave me. That’s the mission: helping others crack the code for themselves so they can live fully aligned with who they were created to be.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
I was 18, coming off three really tough years in high school. I played basketball and was one of the best players on the team in practice, but I barely got the playing time I felt I’d earned. Sophomore and junior year were the hardest — our team was stacked with talent, but it still stung knowing I could contribute more. That period sent me into a deep depression.
Then I visited my future college in White Plains, New York, and met Coach Scanlon. He looked me in the eye and said, ‘I’ll let you play your game here — you’re good at what you do.’ That was all I needed. In my first intrasquad scrimmage, I dropped 40 points. That year, I became Rookie of the Year in my conference, won multiple MVPs, and even broke records in New York City. By the time I graduated from Manhattanville College, I was a top-five scorer in school history.
That body of work gave me a confidence that’s unshakable — not arrogance, but proof that with the right environment and belief, I could dominate. It taught me that the fundamentals for success in basketball translate to life: discipline, strategy, and resilience. People will always talk, but when you’ve overcome obstacles through pure muscle and strategy, you stop worrying about opinions. I’m a mover and a shaker, but I stay humble under The Most High and keep learning from myself and others every day.
What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
Nice guys really do finish last — I learned that the hard way. Now, I’ll never be rude, arrogant, or act like I’m better than anyone, but at 35 I see the world for what it is — and it’s tough. People will take advantage of you if you let them, and I wrote about this in my book because I’ve seen it play out in so many ways.
I had to let go of the ‘nice guy’ approach because it makes you lunch for opportunists. Like a shark smelling blood in the water, most people will test you if they sense weakness. The shift for me was simple: set boundaries, address red flags early, and be intentional with who you give your energy to.
I’m big on observation — I let people be themselves, and eventually they’ll show you exactly who they are. I learned this in the middle of rock bottom, in some of the darkest times of my life. When things get that tight, you see the rawest version of yourself and the people around you — and it changes how you move forever.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
One important truth I’ve learned is that people are extreme by nature — they think if they’re right, someone else has to be wrong. Or if your perspective is different, you must be on the ‘other team.’ That’s insane to me. There are 8 billion people on this planet — we’re not all going to agree on the same issues or nuances.
I believe life is rooted in balance. I don’t lean too far in any one direction because I’ve seen firsthand how extreme thinking can damage people — including myself. I don’t judge anyone for their stance, but I know balance is what keeps me grounded.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m operating at my highest level — when my mind, body, spirit, and finances are all in sync. That’s my sweet spot: building my business, staying connected with my loved ones, traveling, walking, working out, eating good food, enjoying time with great people, making love to the right person, and improving the simple things in life.
True peace for me is also about adding value to others, helping them improve their lives, and honoring the gifts The Most High has given me. The deeper I grow in understanding Him, the more everything else falls into place.
