Today we’d like to introduce you to Darel Hope.
Hi Darel, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
WAUK is a father first and foremost. Family comes first! Music is his passion and life. Born in Milwaukee, WI, but raised in Texas, Wauk attended Collin College where he learned about commercial music business. He also focused on audio engineering and production. He holds the title of Producer, DJ, Audio Engineer, Songwriter, and Lyricist. With ten years plus of experience in the music industry, Wauk is excited about the opportunity to further his music career and achieve the each goal he sets on his way to success.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been easy. Starting off with just lyricism in Hip Hop prior to Attending college for music was a challenge in itself. Having the self-awareness to know that I needed to learn more about music was a crucial part of where I find myself today. If I hadn’t went to school for music I would have probably never taken the time to learn production. If I don’t know how to produce then I don’t think I would have been confident enough in my skills to Switch Genres from Hip Hop to Electronic Music.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I run my own Media Company F.A.M Media. I do a host of things from Photography, Vlogs, and social media creation to Mixing and Mastering audio. I’m very proud of the progress we have made over the past year and change and look forward to watching it grow. What sets me apart from others is the motivation and willingness to always learn and grow. There is always and opportunity for progress.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I’ve definitely taken my share of risk in my lifetime. One risk I can speak about is the risk of Switching from Hip Hop to Electronic Music. I lost a lot of friends and fans who didn’t understand why I wanted to change. They stopped checking in, the support dropped tremendously, and I really found out who really supported me as a person not just an artist. I would literally have to beg some Friends to come to a show and check it out, but they would refuse because they quote “didn’t wanna hear all that”. You can’t be afraid of risk. I feel like if you don’t take a chance then you don’t really want it bad enough.
