Today we’d like to introduce you to Saima Ahmad.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am happily married to my wonderful husband Ahmad Khan, and we have three beautiful children: Nimah (19), Ali (16), and Usman (9). I have always been a stay-at-home mom and I absolutely love spending every second of my life with my family. However, at the back of my mind, I was always eager to do something that excites me, especially now at this stage of my life where my kids are a little older. Even though I have a degree in Microbiology, I never pursued a career in that field.
I remember when I was younger, I used to love playing with colors and patterns. Even as a child, whenever I visited family and friends, I would sit in a room and begin decorating it in my head – thinking, “Oh, that should go here,” or “that should go there.” I would jump on any opportunity that came my way to decorate anything, which often included decorating the gift boxes for my sisters’ baby showers or renovating our own living room.
After getting married, moving from Pakistan to America, and having kids, life got extremely busy. Years went by, and I happily kept volunteering in various events organized by my friends. About eight months ago, I was attending a wedding with my friend, and I began to tell her how much I would love to decorate and organize events and make them look amazing. She really encouraged me, and when I discussed it with my family, they were very supportive and happy for me.
So, I enrolled myself in Collin College’s program and became a certified Wedding & Event Planner. After that, I launched my own company under my own name: Saima’s Events, LLC.
I cannot help but mention my daughter, Nimah, who really supported me in starting my social media, which includes Facebook and Instagram.
So, here I am, quite new in the industry, but enjoying every minute of it as I realized that this is what I was looking for for so long. I finally found my passion.
I will end with this quote that I love: “Let the beauty of what you love to be what you do.” -Rumi
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Yes and no. It has mostly been an incredible experience, and I have learned so many more things than I could have imagined. However, right now, it’s a bit of a struggle for me to balance my work and home life because I have never worked before. Luckily, my family is very supportive, especially my husband. I am sure that I will get the hang of it with time and experience. Also, sometimes, things don’t always go as planned on the day of the event, so you have to be very quick in fixing it while staying calm.
My advice for other women, particularly young women, is to go after your dreams and dream big. Never, ever give up. There is no easy way to achieve anything, so don’t hesitate to work hard and pursue your passions. Also, never stop learning – learn as much as possible, give your best to any project, and don’t be afraid to take on challenges. Always be willing to improve yourself. Last but not least, whenever you achieve something, don’t forget to stay humble.
What should we know about Saima’s Events? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a certified Wedding & Event Planner, and I can custom-design any event. My unique custom designs and decor that are tailored to my clients’ needs and wishes are my specialty, and I am skilled at organizing, designing, and decorating events within a short period of time.
The moments I am most proud of are when my clients express their happiness with my work and services. Nothing makes me feel prouder than seeing the awe on my clients’ faces as they walk in through the door of the venue. I am also very proud of the quality of my work and services. People are trusting me to make their events go smoothly, many of which are the most important day of their lives. I am fully committed to their needs so that the day of the event is flawless and beautiful.
What sets me apart from others is my “East meets West” approach. I love mixing aspects of different cultures and designs together, which often involves designs characterized by modern decor with a traditional touch, or a more traditional event with a contemporary twist.
It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
In order to maintain my own originality, I do not normally look at other designs or decor very often; but when I have time, I like to browse on Pinterest.
