Thanks for sharing your story with us Avion. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Nursing is something that my heart has been drawn to, but I just did not know where to start. I am a person who literally researches EVERYTHING, every single thing before I buy or do it. So in doing my research about becoming an RN (registered nurse) and trying to find out where I can go to start my nursing career the research was slim to none. Everything I found was either nurses who were already in clinical or nurses who were already certified. But what about those pre-nursing students like me? The students that wanted to know how they got into clinical or how they got certified? Or those “on the fence” nursing students who didn’t know what the entire journey was like or if it was even worth the hassle. That is then when I came up with “Becoming Nurse Avion” on YouTube so I can fill in that research gap and show the world the prerequisites, and also the journey in its entirety. It is a fun life documentary for me but it also melts my heart when I get feedback from my subscribers and followers, to know I make a small bit of difference in filling in that gap for them and to also be something they can look forward to in their journey. This also gives me the drive, confidence, and motivation because I am filming my true experience so pass or fail the entire world will know if I made it to become an RN or not. I think that is the most motivation anyone needs because honestly who would want the whole world to know they failed at becoming something they’ve always dreamed about. Although I don’t believe or even think that I will fail because I have such strong faith, great support and confidence it is still a little fire behind me to keep pushing. It truly is an amazing feeling and I had so many doubts about even starting the channel but if I could go back and have a conversation with my younger self, I would have told her, “sis start that channel sooner”!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As much as people think the YouTube world and making videos are smooth and easy, it is truly not. I work full time as an MA (medical assistant) and attend nursing school full time as well, so I have to find ways to fit in time to make these videos. When I am not making videos, I do try to document some things on Instagram, which you should go follow me there @nurseavion, because that is quicker. Also I think it is known that nursing school is not easy but although it is not easy its “do-able”. But if you have a passion for something then it won’t feel like a chore more like something you are having fun with. So the only struggle really is managing all these things and making sure they are all done with quality, but nothing is ever too hard and it can all get accomplished.

Right now I currently have 800+ subscribers/family on Youtube and the numbers are growing daily. I have uploaded may be less than 20 videos but with everything getting back to almost normal and I am able to go back to school more will be uploaded. I start core nursing and clinical in 2021 so from there the videos will be no stop. I am most proud because of the love and feedback I get from my subscribers and followers in which I call them “family”. I was nervous about even starting the whole channel, but they have shown me that it was needed and they engage with me and let me know what they want to see, so it’s like I am giving them what they want and I enjoy doing it as well. I believe what sets me apart from others is that I’m literally starting and showing them the journey from the first step unlike me already being in clinical. I feel if people have more information on what they need, it helps them feel better in their decisions or future decisions. I know if my past self had at least a glimpse of the content I post then I definitely would have made some different decisions in life. Although there is no time machine to change my past and I actually don’t think I would because I probably wouldn’t be here today and answering these questions today. I like to say I’ve taken the scenic route to medicine and it has made me into the person I am today. So even though I cannot change my past I can at least help someone else’s future which sits right in my heart and makes me feel good.
What were you like growing up?
I have always been a caring person growing up. I will give others my last and they won’t even know that it was my last because that was just the way I was raised. Nursing matches with this personality so well because I will be able to help people when they need help and be that person they can lean on. I have always been a very determined person, anything I’ve ever wanted, I made a way for me to get it because I had my mindset on it. My interest has always been wanting to make a small change in the world and I also felt that nursing could help me achieve this as well.
