Meet Dani Brown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dani Brown.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Growing up with my father who was an oil painter by night and a mother who is one of the savviest women I know I would have to say problem solving in a creative manner was a trait I was bound to have. Though I grew up in the heart of Pleasant Grove during the not so best of times my parents sought to put me in a school that would really keep me focus. Unknowingly they put me in some very diverse and creative based schools all the way to the cream of the crop of Dallas, Booker T. Washington HSPVA. I studied visuals arts and eventually transitioned into fashion design. This seemed like a natural fit at the time since looking nice was a thing I was not only taught but loved. While studying I exceled at draping, knits, and of course illustration.

Another transitioned happened from there, since I came from a tall and slim family naturally I was asked to try on everyone’s pieces what seemed like 10x a day. From there I did the independent modeling thing which turned into a conversation where I was complimented on my attire by a photographer and told I should style. After working mostly independent in that career for 9 yrs. I have had the pleasure of working with some of Dallas’s most talented artist where I have now slowly started another transitioning into a new role as a producer. Where I now get to do even more creative problem solving for all kinds of projects alike.

Please tell us about your art.
I am currently a fashion and prop stylist doing mostly commercial and advertisement work but I do editorials as well. As a stylist your creative vision for a look is usually what sets the tone for a shoot which lead me to my ventures in becoming a producer. Growing up my father always said that it is wise to always look your best when you leave the house because you never know who you’re going to meet. That advice still rings true today for me because for my line of work presentation is everything. I hope to inspire and encourage people to ask question and try something new. Even though the answer maybe “no” keep pushing.

Honestly, if you know me and we have worked together the word “no” is more like a “maybe” or I just plain out don’t take it because it can be done and it will be done. Even if it’s not today I will get to that finish line and bring that creative vision to life. Knowing me you should also know that when it comes to either styling or producing I am a perfectionist and more is more! I go above and beyond when I am asked and trusted with a task to bring an artistic vision to life. If I see value in your endeavors and trust you as an artist I go all the way because a true artist does not do the bare minimum. They keep going till they feel their work has hit the peak of completion.

Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
Financial woes are and will always be a challenge. Especially when you step out on faith and no set path on how things should go. Believe me I have been through the ringer emotionally, physically, and mentally trying to make my dreams come to life. I am still making sacrifices today because I see the end goal for me. And for everybody that is different. Because when you are in the midst of it’s easy to get caught up in the details because they are usually right in front of you saying “pay attention to me!” and you will, and you should. Just don’t get loss tending to them all day because there is a bigger picture you need to tend to and that is your future which will yield the biggest since of security, that may be financial or maybe it something that money can’t buy. Only you as an artist can be the judge of that.
