Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Monge.
Hi Jessica, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have always had a love for creating delicious desserts, I would spend hours in the kitchen creating anything that came to mind and of course, my taste testers has always been my family. No matter what I get myself into they are always supporting me. Sweet Fix began from the idea of giving people the opportunity to enjoy eating what I enjoy creating. As time passed, I began whipping up different themes along with different desserts. People began placing orders and putting their faith in me. They began to introduce me to their friends and family and little by little my small business began to grow.
Over the next couple of months, I began to invest my little earnings to get more supplies and made it official on social media and that’s how the sweet fix was created. An important fact I forgot to mention is that I’m a 17-year-old girl attending Early College High School working a part-time job, running my small business and I am a freelance model, however, I could not do it without the help of my amazing mother. She has spend days upon days and nights upon nights helping me with orders. When I graduate in May, I will be graduating with my associates in science as well as my high school diploma. Sweet fix has allowed me to expand my creativity through desserts and we have now expanded to setting up dessert tables for weddings, quinceañeras and any type of gathering.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Oh, man! I wish I could say it has been a smooth road but it has definitely been challenging with coronavirus hitting and me launching my small business in the beginning of 2020, just a couple of months before COVID-19 hit. Even the word challenging feels like an understatement. With people not gathering businesses closing, many of my customers began to cancel their events. Leaving me with supplies on hand that were not able to be used because venues began to shut down and customers began to change their dates. At that point, I felt like discussing retirement with my apron. Yet I didn’t, I focused on my social media and promoting what I do best. I continued with the small number of orders I had and believe that my misfortune has helped grow as a human being and with my business as well as prepared me for what the future has waiting for me.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I offer all types of sweets and packages from chocolate covered pretzels to chocolate-covered strawberries. I have larger packages that include setups for all types of events. This includes background, table decor, and stand as well as the treats and of course, this is all customizable to your liking. I specialize in making your life a little sweeter and anything dipped in chocolate. The possibilities are endless. Sweet fix is known for its chocolate-covered strawberries and the glitter that surrounds them. No, literally, they are dipped in glitter. I am definitely most proud of the fact that I now have a clientele that books my business for gifts to a small gathering and of course, parties. I understand that there’s lots of competition and lots of prices but I believe what sets me apart is my humanity, to me it’s not about the money it’s about making people happy through what makes me happy.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Everyone is stunned when they hear that I am a previous beauty Queen for both Farmers Branch and Dallas. I was crown Miss Teen Dallas Latina and Miss Teen Farmers Branch Latina but it’s even more surprising to hear that I’m only 17. Some might think that’s it’s only a small business but my ambitions are larger and I later plan on opening my own sweet shop here in Dallas.
