Meet John Lynn of Thottie Jay

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Lynn.

John, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born and raised in Memphis, TN. I attended the University of Memphis where I pursued a bachelor’s degree in business and finance. After graduating I had trouble finding a good-paying job that I enjoyed. I decided to take the advice of a friend and move to Dallas, TX in hopes of attaining a more exhilarating life. I took a risk by moving with only five-hundred dollars to my name but I made it work.

I learned my way around the city pretty quickly and began to make friends and connections almost instantly. Shortly after being in Dallas I was inspired to begin doing music. I always had a taste for music so being able to create something of my own was a lot of fun. After some time went by I was approached by a small label out of Atlanta who wanted to sign me.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My first struggle was to learn my vocal range. Having to be my own creative director and schedule my own video shoots and studio time was also challenging. Lastly, maintaining my relationship while doing music has had its complications.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I’m an American rapper from Memphis, TN. I specialize in alternative rap. What sets me apart from everybody else is I’m willing to put everything on the line for my career.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
It’ll be a tie between creativity and originality.
