Meet MyLynn Nguyen, David and John Ly of Magic Cup Cafe in Richardson

Today we’d like to introduce you to MyLynn Nguyen, David and John Ly.

Magic Cup is a family-owned business founded by a love for sharing experiences with others. Our magic is in the way we treat each person who walks through the door like family — family means greeting each other with open arms and enjoying classic recipes together.

To understand where our family-oriented, entrepreneurial spirit originates, we’d like to share insight into the life of our father, John Ly. He’s a first-generation Vietnamese-American, sought refuge in the United States in 1979 to build a new life for his family after the fall of South Vietnam. He had dreams of becoming an entrepreneur and worked hard to save up for a business of his own.

The hardships that come from starting a new life in a different country were daunting and difficult, but it was these obstacles that instilled in him a never-ending perseverance and determination to make his dreams a reality. Through the years, he was involved in many start-up projects but he finally settled on one after creating Suntronic Incorporated, one of the largest privately held Vietnamese electronic manufacturing companies in Texas.

Our father paved the way for the family with his entrepreneurial spirit, a mindset that his children grew up with. After the success of Suntronic Inc., he was determined to work with us to develop a concept of their own. In 2015, Our father worked with us (eldest son – David Ly & daughter in law – Mylynn Nguyen) to ideate their new concept — a fast-casual experience where the community can come together to enjoy high-quality, tasty beverages. Thus, Magic Cup was born.

Our motto: “To bring people together and share magic moments with those in our community.”

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Running a business is not as easy as you think it is, as an owner we wear many hats, some days the struggles can be a bit rough … like pulling your hair out! But, at the end of the day, what rewarding is the accomplishment we have achieved in the community and winning many fan hearts who became our loyal customers. They are our motivations to strive for creativity and always on top of our game in learning and improving.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Magic Cup Cafe – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
