Today we’d like to introduce you to Queen Cole.
Queen, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It all started with my brother Malvin asking me to fill in as a host on Royal Tea Tv. I was new to the city and didn’t mind helping my brother out “until he found someone else.” After the first year, he challenged me to create my own segment. I did and I called it My Dallas Life.
Fast forward to year four! He came back with another challenge and asked, “How are you going to expand your personal brand for 2020?” My answer to that was to start a podcast. I started Light The Path podcast Nov. 2019. I released the first episode Jan. 2020. I’ve had several milestones since I started. Light The Path I hit 2k+ plays in August 2020. I’ve had sponsorships and great collaborations. Being a host of a podcast has also expanded my speaking platform by giving me the opportunity to appear on another podcast. During the pandemic, I’ve been able to connect with people in the UK and Germany via video!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My current struggle is avoiding burn out! I am a goal getter! Once I set my sights, I give full energy to the project. I have realized I can’t keep this behavior up because I put out a new episode once a week. I now pace myself and time block to make sure I stay on task and meet deadlines.
My initial challenge was MYSELF! I am a “recovering” perfectionist and I wanted everything to be perfect. So I went down the YouTube and Google rabbit hole to find out all I could about podcasting. What came to mind was when Grant Cardone said in his book 10x, “Perfectionism can be disguised as procrastination” So here I was full of information but no product! No, I didn’t have a mic! No, I didn’t have a studio, but what I did have was enough information to START so I did. I start recording episodes in my closet on my phone.

Weekly Light The Path will encourage you that it is not only possible to endure and survive this marvelous roller coaster ride we call life, but to grow stronger and thrive as a result of all of our experiences. Sharing our experiences with each other is not only empowering, but it can also help Light The Path.

Of course, God! He gives me the strength and courage to navigate effectively through life. I would list names but there are too many. My family, friends and even secret supporters who listen and view the content I put out to the world all contribute to my success. It’s all Teamwork. It is the super glue to success for me! “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”
The podcast community! The Black Podcast Club and The Pod Squad. They provide collaboration and support. There’s so much power in collaboration. I think it’s wonderful when you can partner with others to champion each other’s successes and help each other bring ideas into the world. Loudly support one another. Be visible in your support of people who are striving to leave a positive footprint on the planet. For me! Finally, my mindset! The path to success is steep, grueling, and arduous. It is inordinately lengthy. It forces you to stumble and fall. I Expect Failure And Embrace It. I keep an open mind to try new things and a new way of thinking about success.
