For Aisha Byrd, the move to a new Mansfield storefront marks more than growth—it’s a reimagining of what a pet business can be. With R&B Dog Bakery, Byrd has created a space where dogs are celebrated as family and community comes first, blending all‑natural treats with meaningful, in‑person experiences like a dog chew bar, photo wall, and pet‑centric events. Rooted in integrity and connection, this next chapter reflects a founder scaling with intention—proving that growth, joy, and purpose can live side by side.
Hi Aisha, to start, congratulations on the upcoming move — what inspired R&B Dog Bakery’s relocation to the new Mansfield storefront, and what does this next chapter represent for you as a founder?
R&B Dog Bakery’s relocation to our new Mansfield storefront was inspired by growth, community demand, and a desire to create a space that fully reflects our mission. After years of operating through farmers markets and our original retail location in Arlington, it became clear that we needed a more visible, dog-friendly environment where we could deepen connections with our customers and the community we serve.
This new storefront represents more than just a move—it’s an evolution. It allows us to introduce new experiences like our dog treat chew bar, a built-out photo wall for families to celebrate their pets, and the ability to host pet-centric community events throughout the year. From adoption days and educational workshops to seasonal celebrations, this space gives us the opportunity to bring people together around their love for pets.
For me as a founder, this chapter represents resilience, responsible growth, and staying true to our values while scaling. It’s a proud moment that reflects how far we’ve come since starting in 2018 and reinforces my belief that growth doesn’t have to come at the expense of integrity, sustainability, or impact—it can be built hand in hand with them.
Your new space includes a dog chew bar and a custom photo wall experience. What made you want to expand beyond a traditional retail setup and focus more on creating memorable, in-person experiences for pet parents?
Expanding beyond a traditional retail setup was very intentional. I’ve always believed that pet businesses should be about more than transactions—they should be about connection, joy, and community. Our customers don’t just shop with us; they celebrate their pets as family, and I wanted our space to reflect that relationship.
The dog treat chew bar gives pet parents the ability to explore, customize, and feel confident in what they’re choosing for their dogs, while the photo wall creates a moment—something fun, shareable, and meaningful. Whether it’s a birthday, holiday, or just a “because” moment, those experiences build lasting memories. To make it even more special, families can receive a free printed photo when they share their pup’s photo on social media or leave a Google review, allowing them to take a tangible memory home while helping us grow through authentic community engagement.
In a world that’s increasingly digital, creating in-person experiences allows us to slow down, engage face-to-face, and build genuine trust. For R&B Dog Bakery, this evolution reinforces our mission to bring pets, families, and community together—and to create a space where people feel welcome, celebrated, and connected every time they walk through the door.
Community seems to be at the heart of this new location. How do you envision the storefront becoming a gathering place for pets, families, and the surrounding neighborhood?
Community has always been at the heart of what we do, and this new location allows us to bring that vision to life in a more intentional way. I envision the storefront as a welcoming, pet-friendly space where families feel comfortable gathering—not just to shop, but to connect and where pet parents can meet and build relationships with other families in their own community.
From our dog chew bar and photo wall to open, inviting areas for conversation, the space is designed to encourage interaction and shared experiences. We plan to host pet-centric community events throughout the year, including adoption celebrations, birthday parties, educational workshops, and seasonal photo days, creating regular opportunities for neighbors to come together.
By partnering with local organizations, schools, and pet-focused nonprofits, we want the storefront to serve as a hub for resources, support, and joy. Ultimately, my goal is for R&B Dog Bakery to feel like a neighborhood gathering place—where pets are celebrated, families feel seen, and meaningful community connections are formed every time someone walks through our doors.
As R&B Dog Bakery continues to grow, how do you stay grounded in your original mission while introducing new offerings and ideas?
As R&B Dog Bakery continues to grow, I stay grounded in our original mission by returning to the “why” behind everything we do—creating high-quality, all-natural treats while using our business as a tool for positive community impact. Every new product, service, or idea is filtered through the same questions we asked when we first started: Does this serve pets well? Does it support families? Does it align with our values around integrity, accessibility, and sustainability?
Growth for us has never been about adding more just for the sake of expansion. Whether it’s introducing a dog treat chew bar, a community photo wall, or expanding our retail footprint, each offering is designed to deepen connection, enhance the customer experience, and strengthen our role in the community. We also listen closely to our customers—they’ve helped shape our menu, events, and even how we show up in our neighborhood.
Finally, staying hands-on as a founder keeps me closely connected to our day-to-day operations and impact. Being present allows me to ensure that as we evolve, R&B Dog Bakery remains true to its roots: a people- and planet-first business built with love, purpose, and a genuine commitment to the community we serve.
Looking ahead, what are you most excited for customers to experience when they walk into the new Broad Street location for the first time?
When customers walk into our new location at Geyer Common in Mansfield for the first time, I’m most excited for them to feel the intention behind the space. From the moment they enter, it’s designed to be welcoming, joyful, and unmistakably pet-centered—a place where dogs are just as celebrated as the people who love them.
I’m especially excited for customers to experience our new dog treat chew bar, where pet parents can interact, ask questions, and choose treats with confidence, as well as our custom photo wall that encourages families to capture special moments with their pups. The added touch of receiving a free printed photo makes the visit memorable, not just transactional.
Beyond the features, I’m most excited for people to experience the sense of community. This location represents our next chapter—one where neighbors can connect, pets can socialize, and families can return not just to shop, but to belong. Our hope is that every visit feels like a celebration of pets, connection, and community.
