Today we’d like to introduce you to Amelia and Tamy Hasbrouck.
Amelia and Tamy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
We started Millie’s This and That as two teachers trying to supplement our income. We knew that we wanted to include something that people use everyday, and just like that, we started making homemade all natural soap. We started going to local craft fairs without the expectation of it turning into anything bigger than that. We have been shocked and extremely grateful for the response we have had to our products; however, we are not too surprised. We take great pride in our products and know their quality can really make a difference in your bath time routines. We have since expanded from just soap, to hand poured soy candles and lotion as well. Environmentally friendly products have always been near and dear to our hearts, even as just consumers before we even started our own business. We only have one Earth and want to leave behind a happy planet for future generations. This is why we make a point to make all of our product with all natural and organic resources. We include essential oils to give our products their amazing and long-lasting scents. We do not include any of those harmful detergents and chemicals that you find in most store-bought items. We are so excited to have recently partnered with a local store in Royse City where our customers can always find our products in stock, year round.
Has it been a smooth road?
Some of the struggles included how to make soap! There are so many recipes for soap and trying to find the one that best fits our purpose was hard to do. There was a lot of trial and error at first…and a lot of messes!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Millie’s This and That story. Tell us more about the business.
We believe our commitment to environmentally friendly products is what sets us apart from most other small businesses. Also, being teachers, we know that realistically people can’t spend 8.00 for a bar of soap. We work efficiently to create our products so that we can price them a rate that we know people can comfortably afford.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Ultimately, we would love to open our own storefront. But we know, as teachers, that it may not occur as quickly as we hope. In the meantime, we look forward to continuing our craft fairs and potentially partnering with other local storefronts to sell our products.
