Today we’d like to introduce you to David Weaver.
David, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
We began in Austin in 2015 and in the spring of 2017 began producing in Denton for the DFW area. The company is a family business run by brothers Benjamin (Austin) and David (Denton/DFW) Weaver. Farmers Markets have been a launching pad for the business as we currently offer 17 flavors that we rotate seasonally as certain fruits and produce become available. SoCo has built a following at the Markets based on its bottle refill model where customers can refill their SoCo growler for a discount at the Markets.
Since the beginning, more and more local stores, bars and restaurants have been calling to stock their shelves with our Ginger Beer.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The market for SoCo has been growing rapidly. We have not had many snafus other than the daily challenge to keep up with the growing demand!
SoCo Ginger Beer – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are proud to be Texas’ only craft ginger beer.
We wash and inspect each piece of ginger and every lemon by hand for a fresh, wholesome drink you can trust, and we test every batch before it makes it to your glass. Our ginger beer is made from a few simple ingredients. Our original flavor is made with fresh ginger, fresh lemon, organic cane sugar, and sparkling water. To this, we add other fresh ingredients to create new flavors. Our flavored ginger beers contain exactly what you expect from the name, nothing more, nothing less.
We take pride in providing amazing, local Ginger Beer for the flood of Moscow Mules being made all over Texas. Delicious by itself too!
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The best moment was the very beginning at the farmers market when people were overwhelmingly positive about the Ginger Beer we had created. We knew from the great response that we had created something great.
