Today we’d like to introduce you to Katherine Salom.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Katherine. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am a 24-year-old who now works full time online as a social media influencer. However, it definitely didn’t start out this way. I went to Texas A&M and studied Animal Science and Meat Science and was planning to go to medical school. Plans change, and after five years of college, the thought of going back to school was not something I wanted to do. I always thought I was going to go to a professional school, so when I finished college, I really had no idea what I was going to do for an actual job. I interviewed for multiple sales jobs, but I wasn’t sure if it was my calling. However, I got a call one day out of the blue asking me if I wanted to manage social media for a sports nutrition company – but the hang up was that they wanted me to start in two days. After a lot of thinking, I packed up everything I had in my hometown of Baytown, TX and moved my life to Dallas for what I thought was going to be my dream job.
I started the job in January, however, I soon realized that what I was doing was not my calling. As I sat there working on social media for a company, I would daydream, “what if I put this amount of time on a daily basis into my own accounts,” however,v the thought of quitting my job and pursuing something where I do not have a set income was always quite daunting. Well, skip ahead to August, there were some changes at work and I decided it was time to leave and pursue what I love as a full-time job, which was my social media accounts. It is scary, but being able to pour my heart into YouTube, Instagram, my blog and other social accounts has been the time of my life! I don’t know what is next for me, but I am working hard every day and loving every minute of it!
I started my Instagram account in 2012 since it was a brand new “cool” app. But it wasn’t until a few years later when I was in college that I would actively work to grow my social media accounts. I loved to dress up and take pictures so over time, other accounts on Instagram would repost my photos and that would usually bring new followers to my page. I started to realize that I could do something with the growing following and that’s when I started working to become an influencer. I worked on spreading my reach and providing creative content – and my accounts continued to grow. As of August of 2018, I quit my full-time job to pursue what I love on a day to day basis.
Has it been a smooth road?
No! It hasn’t always been smooth. With changes in the Instagram, the algorithm can come a massive decrease in an engagement that can be incredibly frustrating. It’s something that is always changing and you have to accommodate the changes without really knowing what has changed. In addition, when I wasn’t happy waking up every day to go to a job I wasn’t in love with, I went to a dark place and wasn’t myself. I kept working behind the scenes after my day job to make my dreams my reality. After a lot of lost sleep and a ton of work, I am able to do what I love each and every day!

I am a social media influencer. I have a YouTube Channel, Katherine Michelle, where I share my day to day life, my dog, recipes and all the aspects of a ketogenic diet. I have grown to over 67,000 subscribers and being able to show others that being healthy isn’t as hard as it may seem! Lots of keto YouTubers make it seem quite daunting, but I am told over and over again that I present it in a light that makes so many feel comfortable with trying to make their life better! In addition, I like to share my many different adventures on my Instagram account, @ksalom, where I have racked up over 162,000 followers. I have always shared pictures doing what I love and the authenticity I believe is what has allowed my account to grow over time. I am proud that I am different – I don’t feel like I fit a mold on any of the platforms I am active on. I have a little bit of an edge that sets me apart!
