Life and Work with Clarissa Nash

Today we’d like to introduce you to Clarissa Nash.

Clarissa, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
FIVE12 STUDIO started out as CNICOLE PHOTODESIGN as a way to jump start my design career. After a couple of years, I grew comfortable with my brand, identifying how I wanted to be known to my audience and adapted my birthday (May 12) into what is now FIVE12 STUDIO. Instead of focusing on just design and photography, I help brands reflect ideal audience by creating a visual strategy that attracts them. These brands break rules and become leaders in their industry, creating brand loyalists as faithful as the Beyhive.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
A smooth road? Absolutely not. So many times I wanted to quit because I was dead broke and it didn’t make sense to do this. Other times I felt like no one cared. Then there were times I thought I was just crazy and needed to find a “real” job. But during my lowest of lows, I kept going. The universe said I was needed, and eventually, I started to believe it.

I love collaborating with other people, which is my biggest advice. Don’t worry about someone doing the same thing you’re doing–you’ll never be the only one. Find the spark that makes you unique and build on it so you can always be your best version of you.

For those starting out: find a mentor. It will help so much as you build your brand.

Please tell us about FIVE12 STUDIO.
FIVE12 STUDIO is a brand identity and design house for change makers and rule breakers. I offer visual design, brand consulting, social media branding, web design, art direction, and retainer services.

FIVE12 STUDIO is socially active when it comes to advocating for human rights. It strives to work with clients who believe in inclusiveness and strive for true diversity.

What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
Find out who you are, what your goals are and what you want to be remembered for. Think beyond the fame and money (it doesn’t come for a while). Don’t compare yourself to others on social, as that’s only 1% of what you see. You’re worthy and enough to be doing what you’re doing.
