Today we’d like to introduce you to RaSheena Hern and Chaundra Turner.
RaSheena, Chaundra, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
We are Hair Stylist/ Makeup Artist from Columbia Missouri. We have always dreamt of working in a salon together. We are childhood besties of over 20 years. We have memories of setting up shop in RaSheena’s house where friends and family would come over, and we would either do their hair for free or as little $10-$15 dollars. Since then we’ve wanted to go into business together. This June will mark five Years since DuoDiva has been established. We have accomplished our goal of working together in a salon Suite along with having our product line, hair collection along with becoming Best Beauty Influencer of DFW, being honored at different events, volunteering at different local events and speaking to students at school career day. We love what we do, and it has definitely become bigger than us.
We stand on keeping God first especially, for he has continued to make room for our gifts in this world & beauty industry. Overall, we love reaching to women, men, and children and making them beautiful from the inside out, its a dream come true. We plan to strive not only in the beauty industry but in the Dallas community and eventually the world with our love for people. We are forever grateful for what has come and truly excited and already thankful for what is to come in the future.
Has it been a smooth road?
No, it has definitely not been a smooth road AT ALL, we are very involved mothers our kids have schedules of their own. Being business owners and having to balance, children, home and a business can be really hard. Somehow, we make it work by the grace of God.
As a stylist we’ve had clients walk out without paying, vendors take money without sending products, investing in events where NOT ONE person showed up and plenty of clients continuing to no call no show. However, we know its apart of the career.
As far as advice, we just try to stay positive, stayed focused on your mission and never give up. Just know if it’s on your heart if it’s your desire to keep the faith and ambition to stay on your own course. Just know, it won’t go the way you want just keep moving, even if its small, never stop! Never stop believing in your dream and definitely never stop believing in yourself. Remember, things happen for a reason and remember its gonna happen the way its suppose to.

We are a full-time hairstylist and makeup artist. We specialize in healthy hair, extensions & wig making. We are known for our variety of services we provide and our brand, DuoDivas. We brand together in everything we do, which stands out for people to recognize that two friends can go into business together. We are very proud of our brand because we feel like our goal of unity, sisterhood & empowerment is being shown, and our goal of that is being accomplished. The thing that sets us apart is that we have two different unique personalities but still can still work well together in order to get things done.
Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
We definitely feel that networking is key. In any career choice you are in, stay involved and support all events. Always support your fellow coworkers, associates or those you’d like to meet. That is very important, that is what worked for us, helps get ideas on what to do and what not to do. Events are where you can find the best mentors and supporters.
