Meet Tanisha Dean of DEVINity Productions in Irving

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanisha Dean.

Tanisha, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I had been writing and starring in church skits for over 11 years now. It was something that brought me the most joy and I could whip out a skit in no time.

After graduating from TWU in 2000 with a Speech-Language Pathology degree, I went on to graduate school where I discovered that I absolutely did NOT want to be a Speech-Language Pathologist. I went on to have many different jobs that never fulfilled me.

Fast forward to about four years ago, a friend of mine asked me to do his Christmas productions. They were bigger than my skits but smaller than a full-length stage play. They were such a success that he asked me back two more years after. That experience gave me a little fire to maybe search for other churches that wanted holiday productions. Then the movie “War Room” came out. It was #1 in the nation for some time. Not the #1 Christian film, but the #1 Film, period. That did it for me. I said to myself, if they can do it, I can too. Just like that God confirmed my purpose, my ministry in life… the Arts.

I stepped out on faith and produced my very first full-length gospel stageplay in September of 2017. I have since produced 2 additional plays.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not perfectly smooth, I would say a little bumpy here and there. Producing stageplays has many moving parts. My husband and I are the team of my production company and we are really learning as we go. The biggest challenge has been having to replace actors. For one of my productions I was tasked with having to find a new actor within two weeks of the show date. Another major challenge for us is finding credible and dependable videographers. That has been another major challenge for us.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with DEVINity Productions – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
DEVINity Productions is a Christian production company that exists to not only build the kingdom but to aid in others’ Christian walk. The first 5 letters spell Devin. Devin is the son we lost in 2005 at five months gestation. This play on words is in honor of him and we want this company to be led by the Divine.

So far, we have produced three gospel stageplays, but we are looking to extend to other events and eventually create Christian films.

I am proud of the quality of writing and production value we have been able to present. I am extremely proud that someone gave their life to Christ. They said it was because they saw our latest production, “When Silence Speaks”.

What sets us apart from others is our ability to bring something new and fresh to gospel stageplays. Ours will be unlike any other gospel stage play you have seen. Our desire is that it attracts non-believers and the unchurched to want to change their life for Christ.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are looking to venture out a little at the beginning of 2019 – be on the lookout for something a little different and new from DEVINity Productions. We will also present another gospel stageplay late summer or early fall.
