Life and Work with Olivia Arratia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Arratia.

Olivia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It wasn’t until I got my first phone (a Motorola), at the age of thirteen, I started to fall in love with the concept of a photograph. Since then, I have been taking pictures of everything and anything. I am currently studying to obtain my Bachelors in Fine Arts in Photography. From there, I plan on going to graduate school to obtain my Masters in Fine Arts.

Has it been a smooth road?
No. Just like everything in life, there is never a smooth road. I’ve had struggles with self-doubt and comparing myself with other photographers. It’s hard not to when the photography world is so competitive. But you have to remember to be true to yourself and keep going (Super cliché, I know).

When I first started my photography business, I made funny choices with composition, lighting, color; you name it! It took me a couple of tries before I was happy with the results. I promise, the more you create and the more you put yourself into your photography, the better the results!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Olivia Arratia Photography – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I am at my best when I photograph people; Portraits, Engagements, Couples, Weddings, Fashion, Editorial. When I meet a new client, I try to get to know them and their style as best as I can before the session. This helps me to fit their needs best, and produce images that allow their personality to shine!

Do you feel like there was something about the experiences you had growing up that played an outsized role in setting you up for success later in life?
Yes, many experiences come to mind, but the one that is most influential is the example of my parents. Children of immigrants, they were always taught to work hard for what they wanted. Successes will never be handed freely. It must be gained. My parents taught their children this, and here I am today.
