Meet Joel Joseph

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joel Joseph.

Joel, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Joseph’s is a family-owned business started by my parents in downtown Dallas in May 1984. We expanded to a second location in Mesquite in 1987 and eventually consolidating to the one location in Mesquite in 1994, as we focused exclusively on the 12-volt automotive side of the consumer electronics industry.

While my siblings and I all worked in the business growing up, I took over the daily operations full-time after graduating from Texas A&M University in 1993. As that change occurred, we also expanded from just automotive audio, video, and security to becoming more of a one-stop restyling boutique.

Has it been a smooth road?
No, not at all. But as with most things in life, perseverance is the key to getting anywhere. When our founder passed away in 2007, the business itself went through a number of changes as the entire family had to take a hard look at where we saw ourselves for our individuals and our future in the business, as well as the business itself. From that point, many internal changes were made to focus our offerings to make Joseph’s more of a specialty shop and tailor ourselves more as solutions company than a retail “box mover.”

We’d love to hear more about your business.
What we take the most pride in is knowing (about) what we do, and the ability to put that into action to serve our client’s vehicles. Our goal is to be a one-stop shop for our customers, for any of their aftermarket vehicle needs: audio, video, security, suspension, wheels/tires, interior, lighting, vehicle wraps–and not just for their car or truck, but marine, golf cart or Powersports vehicle as well. We strive to build unique solutions for our clients, not cookie-cutter solutions.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Depending on if you mean specifically Mesquite, or Dallas in total, generally speaking, YES. The key is finding what YOU want to be to the consumer, and following through. The most difficult part of our industry is that from the outside, people think you are selling products; In actuality, we are selling solutions and experiences. For most people, their vehicle is one of the few major investments that they will own outright, and unlike their home, they CAN customize and tailor it to their liking and personality. So, for our industry, if you are just starting out, the question to ask yourself is who do you want to deal with, and are you willing to put forth the effort, time, and money to gain the knowledge to do so.

As for our city, we have more and more people (and cars) coming to our region every month. And with social media, and the internet, it’s easier than ever for people to FIND you. Being good at what you do, and promote it, and the customers will find you.
