Meet Giselle Silva of Gee Gee Marie BBW Model

Today we’d like to introduce you to Giselle Silva.

Giselle, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started modeling in 2016, it was a favor to a friend and I did a photo shoot. After I posted some pictures from the shoot in Facebook and IG the response from family and friends was very positive and made me feel happy and really good about myself. I started researching modeling agencies and different events in the DFW that were apart of the plus size modeling industry and started attending model calls and events. I was having lots of fun doing this and decided that I would focus and becoming a plus size / Bbw model because I had so much positive feedback from different women telling me how they love what I’m doing and I also saw many close people to me also gain confidence from what I was doing!

I struggled all my teenage life with weight gain and being overweight. I was bullied and made fun of which lead me to make some not so good decisions in my life. After having a difficult time in my 20’s as well, I was tired of it and I knew I had to do something to uplift myself and change my life for the better. That’s when I started to build my portfolio and gained more and more followers on social media which lead me to land modeling work doing photo shoots and runway shows all over the DFW! Within the last 2.5 years, I have had the privilege of working with some great people in the industry here in the DFW area and also traveled to Alabama in 2018 and walked the runway for Lane Bryant in a fashion show which was a dream come true! When I started, I always would think to myself how awesome it would be to model for Lane Bryant or Torrid and for it to actually happen made all the hard work worth it and also showed other woman and girls that once you set your mind to something anything is possible. Now, I’m working towards doing shows and shoots in many other cities such as New York and Atlanta and even Miami. I’ll eventually make my way to London and Paris to shoot as a model, the sky’s the limit and I’m aiming for the stars! I pray I can get signed to a big agency and soon be a household name! We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No. It has been a rocky road and I have hit so many obstacles. I started late and I was 35 when I decided to pursue my modeling career. I am also only 5ft tall which is also hard in the modeling industry because even though It’s plus size modeling, height is still a requirement for a lot of modeling jobs and I’ve been told no or turned away many many times due to my height. I learned that in this industry the thicker the skin, the better because it’s like being looked at through a magnifying glass. People telling you how to walk when to walk what you need to change about yourself how to smile how not to smile and also how to dress and what to wear and what not to wear. I’ve been told no more times than I’ve been told yes but no matter what I’ve kept pushing and pushing because my hard work is finally paying off.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Gee Gee Marie BBW Model story. Tell us more about the business.
My business is modeling and from that, I have started a promo/ party hosting business. I also have a website that will be up and running within a few weeks and I have gained enough fans and followers that I am able to make Gee Gee Marie Merchandise and able to sell items such as T-shirts’ and posters and I’m currently working on a calendar and a few other projects that I don’t want to leak too much info on yet but 2019 Gee Gee Marie is venturing out into Reality tv and also my own brand – Geesquad Clothing Co.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe in luck. I believe in hard work and dedication.
