So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
A few years ago, I worked in the financial services industry, serving clients needs on a daily basis. Behind a desk, taking phone calls, completing tasks and making sure everything was in good order. I was so focused on my career that I never really took the time to think about my life, where I really want to be and how I want to enjoy the time we have in this world. With so many health trends going on and more and more people focusing on their overall “wellness”, I began the journey to a healthier “me.”
And so… I started running half marathons, marathons, and become a triathlete. With all this in mind, I took the time to care about my nutrition but was also looking for something that was portable and easy to consume, whether as a healthy snack or a natural source of energy pre/post or during a workout. I didn’t see anything out there that I was satisfied with, and wasn’t crazy about energy bars because I would never eat the entire serving. I played in my kitchen with superfood ingredients I eat almost every day, creating something that was portable with really clean ingredients… and one day… our Superfood Bites were born! I didn’t just create something that complements my lifestyle but, I found my passion, for health and wellness. About a year later, I made a big decision. With the support of my husband, family, and friends, I decided to quit my finance job to start my own business, Food Groove Mission.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
At unpredictable points in our lives, we will all go through some bumpy roads. Since starting my company, there have definitely been many ups and downs. It’s a really competitive world out there and you really have to believe in yourself, no matter what you do, and differentiate yourself from everyone out there. You are the face of what you do, and I ask myself everyday… how do I want people to perceive me and my brand? At the end of the day, you are your brand so how do you want people to remember you as?
Communication – I believe can be one of the biggest struggles when it comes to the business as a whole. One of our examples: Due to lack of communication and clarity with suppliers we have worked with, it has cost us time and money for our brand. From these situations, you really learn the ways to tackle them differently, to be more efficient and the best representative for your brand and yourself. At the end of the day, it’s about your customers.
Advice I would give to other women starting their journey is to, NEVER GIVE UP & BELIEVE IN YOURSELF. There will be times when you just want to stop, and quit because it’s such a tough world out there. Stand up and give it your all because you will never know unless you give it a good shot.

So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
Absolutely! I do believe though, the following are the biggest barriers today to female leadership and opportunities. By breaking these barriers and finding ways to overcome fears and trusting yourself, I believe there would be greater opportunities for women today in any industry.
Confidence – In today’s world, many women are too self-conscious about what others think. If there are ways we can make women more confident in themselves and really believe in what they can become, then I think that many more women would be leaders, for themselves, and in any industry.
Risk Taking – Taking that extra leap, in anything, can be intimidating and cause us to be fearful of failing. Another piece of advice that I would give is, if you don’t try, you won’t know, and if you take risks in life to better yourself, you may not reach your goal, however, it will add edge to your personality and make you better and better every day.
Trust – I believe this to be the most important one. TRUST yourself. With this, women will become more confident and take those risks in life to better themselves and become the leader of their passions in life.
