Today we’d like to introduce you to David Hoover.
Thanks for sharing your story with us David. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
While in high school, I was the sound man for a local band. I had a friend ask me if the band could play his high school graduation party, the band was unavailable, so I borrowed the PA system and DJ’ed the party instead. I enjoyed it so much, I started playing house parties and private parties as much as I could. I DJ’ed as a hobby until 2008 when I moved to Texas and began contracting with a DJ company here. In 2008, I formed my LLC DJ BIGG DAVE and five years later, North Texas DJ and Lighting.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Since the first 23 years, I DJ’ed as a hobby, I was able to slowly build my music library and purchase equipment slowly and not have the huge overhead initially. Working for a musical instrument retailer also helped with gear acquisition with employee pricing and it also gave me very valuable contacts in the industry. So, overall, it was a relatively smooth ride.
Please tell us about North Texas DJ and Lighting.
As I began to hone my DJ experience, I found that I enjoyed weddings the most. I enjoyed the club scene and corporate events, but I have found that it seems weddings are the most fun! Working one on one with the bride is always fun and it’s nice to know that you are writing the musical memories that will follow the bride and groom for the rest of their lives.
I am a small business and I believe that the personal touch, knowing that I am your DJ from start to finish is important. I have other DJs that contract with me, but weddings are my focus and I take great pride in focusing on the specifics of the bride. She has been dreaming of this moment most of her life, from very early on as a little girl, playing dress up until she puts on the gown and walks down the aisle. I want her day to be PERFECT!
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would give more focus to concentrating on my DJ and production company but otherwise, NO! I wouldn’t change a thing!
