Meet Kyndall Borden-Zirges of Fringe/A Hair Lounge in Keller

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyndall Borden-Zirges.

Kyndall, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m a dreamer. I always have been. But I could have never dreamed my journey would have led me to where I am today. After graduating high school, I went off to college, like most kids do, without any sort of direction other than knowing I wanted to be off on my own. Just one semester later, I decided I wanted to pursue a different path. I’ve never been a quitter. I was a competitive gymnast most of my life and quitting so early on was foreign to me. I felt so lost. In 2008, I toured my first cosmetology school. At this point, I was still under the impression that graduating from college was my only chance at being successful. Boy, was I wrong! I didn’t jump in right then and there. I went back to college for three years but could never shake the feeling that I wasn’t doing what I was meant to be doing. In 2011, I made the leap into cosmetology school and I have never looked back. I graduated top of my class in 2012 and landed a job at my first salon. I worked there for just over a year before taking another leap to move to Boulder, CO with my husband for his career. I have always approached life with a curious spirit, so this move really appealed to me. I always dreamed of living in other places, but never really understood what all that entailed. My family is the core of my universe and being away from them was my biggest struggle. Ultimately, our hearts moved us back to Texas and just one year later, Fringe was born. That was two years ago. Now, I have a thriving business that I couldn’t be more proud of.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road to success is never smooth. But I have enjoyed every trial and tribulation along the way! Each step has taught me something new about this business, this industry and most importantly, myself. I am surrounded by nothing but supportive and loving family, friends and clients who have always believed in me. I’ve got my very own cheerleaders at every turn and they keep me inspired, motivated and determined to live my dream. Taking the jump into owning my own business was the scariest thing I’ve ever done. It was a blind move. I had hardly any clientele and no idea how to run my own business. Just a dream and a goal of being my own boss. To this day, I’m still learning. Still growing. Still believing. But now, I see my future much more clearly.

Please tell us about Fringe/A Hair Lounge.
I am only half of Fringe/A Hair lounge. My hair bestie, Allie and I opened Fringe/A Hair Lounge just shy of two years ago. Since then, my business has boomed faster than I could have ever imagined! I specialize in low maintenance, lived in blondes, balayage and hand tied extensions. I swoon over blunt, yet textured bobs and soft, tousled bohemian styles. Hair is my creative expression. It allows me to create art that in turn, makes people feel beautiful. But the most rewarding part of my “job” is being able to connect with my clients on an authentic and personal level. I enjoy every second of getting to know each and every client that sits in my chair. I cherish each relationship I have built with my clients; all different, all special and all so important to me. They are the reason I am able to live my dream every single day. The beauty industry offers so much more than just making money, it allows you to transform people’s confidence from the inside out and I am privileged to be a part of it!

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
As I said earlier, I was a competitive gymnast all growing up. I grew up in the gym competing and training under some of the most elite gymnast and coaches in the game. Gymnastics was my first true love. I actually ended up being homeschooled through middle school to allow for the amount of time training required. It taught me determination, discipline, and hard work and ultimately, it molded me into the person I am today.
