Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristy Johnson.
Kristy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started modeling at the age of 14, my mother’s friend had taken me and her daughter to the mall and that day, I got scouted to do my first High Fashion Runway show with Macy, JC Penny, and Sears for the Spring catalog in the early 2000s. After graduating high school, that’s when I began to start traveling to California & NY where most of my work/talent has been broadcast. Then, I started to do some local work here in the Texas area. I was also featured in the stage play THE REMOVAL OF THE MASK by Christi Henderson as SIS JASMINE. As I began to go forth with what I’m passionate about, I landed a role in EMPIRE season 3 and season 4 and worked with ESPN every year for the COLLEGE ALL STAR COMMERCIAL. I am very humbled to be where I am and about to be with my career, it required a lot of time and work along with studying script, making yourself available, and most of all being confident in what are very passionate about. I didn’t have much of a support system to be there when I did my Fashion Runway events, I’ve always managed to keep pushing cause if it had not been for my determination, I wouldn’t be where I am now. I look forward to what’s to come for me. All it takes is a lil faith and just keep pushing and know that all things will work. My motto is “If you want your dream to come to life, you must put in the work to bring it alive.”
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, it hasn’t always been smooth. Pursuing what you really love, there are going to be many doors closed in your face, you get so many NOs, oh she doesn’t fit the part… etc. I’ve learned to never give up cause I have both young and old people along with my babies that look up to me. I want them to know that it is possible.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I specialize in help building character, confidence, and build self-esteem along with making an impact on kids and young adults. Many people know me as the inspirational fashion model, motivational speaker, and actress. What sets me apart is that I’m not just an ordinary model, actress, speaker, etc.. I am a woman of great faith, love to serve and always keep God first in all that I do. It’s not just about me being beautiful I believe I have a unique character that fits my personality like no other. I love to laugh and smile.
What were you like growing up?
I had a good childhood, I remember when I was seven or eight years old, I would always go over to my friend’s house and we would meet up every day after school and every Saturday on the front, we would pretend to, we had a full audience watching us as we would act like we were in a concert and at church. We would gather sticks and use them as microphones, HAHA! We would tag team on preaching. My interest has always wanting to be on tv and to make a difference in the world with not just showing the beauty of my face, but to show the world that anything is possible even being 5’1 in the fashion industry. Tyra Banks has always been my model icon (I WOULD LOVE TO MEET HER ONE DAY & DO A PHOTOSHOOT WITH HER).
