Conversations with the Inspiring Kim Bartholomew

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Bartholomew.

Kim, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was a primary grade school teacher for 15 years but always found myself highly intrigued with the real estate market; I just never felt it was the right time to change my career path. Over those 15 years, I started a family, having three children, a husband who traveled weekly, and a full-time job. This was all beginning to wear on me and my children. I found myself often wondering… wondering about a career in real estate. Could I be successful? Would I fall flat on my face? Would I be happier? Finally, there came a day where I woke up, exhausted from life, and I knew it was time. I needed a change! I needed more flexibility to be able to be there for my children in ways I was not able to while working in the classroom. I needed a change for myself. I needed to know if I could find success as a REALTOR and not look back on my life and wonder. I did not want to live with any regrets because I was too scared to try. So, with that, I left teaching and embarked on a new journey. I have not looked once!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My first full year as a REALTOR was very trying. Not only was I changing careers and building a business, but also my father passed away and I divorced all within a few months time. This brought me to my knees and forced me to dig deep into my soul for strength. Through it all, I refused to fail. With the support of family, friends, and my work team, I managed to keep moving forward finding myself as one of the top producers in Collin County for Fathom Realty. I am so thankful for all those in my life for continuing to push me, support me, and love me. I am so thankful I pushed the fear of embarking on a new journey aside and stepped out from what I knew. I am much happier with my life now and I can see it reflected in my children’s faces and in my business.

Through my experiences, I have learned how truly strong I am. I have learned that there will always be obstacles, but it is what you do in those moments that shape you. You have to keep moving forward. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade!

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
As a real estate consultant, my focus is on building relationships as I prepare my clients for all the steps they will be traveling through during a real estate transaction. I strive to deliver an experience that my clients are so outrageously happy with that they refer me to their friends and family who may need assistance. This is the highest form of a compliment I could receive.

I am so proud to work on a team, Chris Spear Real Estate Consultants, filled with individuals who have servant’s hearts and are filled with an insane amount of experience. When choosing to work with me, you are not just receiving my personal expertise, but also benefiting from the collaborative effort of a team, all driven to deliver a client experience like no other.

What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
I feel the biggest barrier in female leadership today is that our strength and determination is often underestimated. I am very fortunate to have women in my life that are highly driven to succeed and are positive influences on others.
