Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaris Knoelle.
Aaris Dorham, better known as Aaris Knoelle, was born and raised in Fort Worth, TX. Seeing her mother run her own fashion boutique at a young age caught the eye of Aaris quickly. The boutique featured high-quality gowns and garments that were imported from India. These garments had immense detail in them featuring embroidery, sequence, intricate beadwork, etc. Aaris began exploring her desire for fashion at the age of eight, by taking classes in the Arts during the Summers of 2003 – 2007 at “College for Kids” at Tarrant County College in Fort Worth, Texas, on to high school, and eventually at the university level.
While studying fashion design, Aaris obtained knowledge in various areas of the art, including Pattern Making, Draping, Sewing Construction, Fabric Sourcing, Trend Analysis, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Gerber PDS, Spec sheet, CAD, Tech Pack analysis, and more. While in school Aaris interned at The House of MacGregor, a fashion business in Dallas, TX. Among the many things Aaris designed and made while in school, during her senior year, Aaris created her senior collection inspired by the Sydney Opera House. Having visited there as a pre-teen, this was the perfect inspiration for her. The collection included five illustrated garments with the completed production of four of them. Evening wear inspired as well, the collection featured beautiful gowns with laser cutting and overlay detailing that resembled features of the architecture.
Aaris obtained her B.F.A in Fashion Design from the University of North Texas in Spring of 2017. After graduating from college, Aaris started off in the fashion design industry working at David’s Bridal as an alterations specialist. There, Aaris became more knowledgeable in fitting garments to clients specific, process of altering garments, and business relations to fashion. Aaris is currently working as a Couture Seamstress/Alterations Specialist at Stardust Celebrations in Plano, TX. Here, Aaris skills learned from her previous employer were elevated, even more, getting better at couture fittings and working with high-grade garments including Bridal gowns, mother of the bride dresses, and much more.
Outside of everyday work, Aaris is moving towards advancing her own fashion brand “Aaris Knoelle Designs.” Aaris design style could best be described as Chic though Edgy, Beautiful but Bold, Poise yet Daring. A combination of safe and risky all in one. Through her designs, Aaris Knoelle reveals the two sides most all people have in them; good and bad. Because “When I’m Bad, I’m Good and when I’m Good I’m even Badder.” Aaris favorite things to design are Evening Wear, Sports Wear, Custom Designs, and Couture of course. Aaris is currently working on her new collection “Poppies are Blooming.” This collection will present Evening wear and Sportswear garments, featuring gowns, dresses, suits, and more.
Along with working on her new collection, Aaris also does custom work for clientele looking for personally made clothing. Aaris draws her inspiration for designing from Haute Couture designers and runway shows from the top fashion cities around the world. Aaris favorite part of designing is seeing her vision and artistry come to life. She is dedicated to bringing innovative ideas and techniques to the table that would be beneficial in breaking new grounds in the fashion world.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Has not been a smooth ride at all. After I graduated, I lost inspiration to design anything or create due to issues beyond me. But then I realized I wanted more. See that’s the difference between me and a lot of people. Quitting, Giving up, or simply Not Trying is never an option. Will never be an option. So I pushed myself to get my name out there more and let people know I really do this thing called fashion design. As for right now, I’m really just trying to figure it out. You know life. So many things can distract you from your goals and passion but you can’t allow them to. My main goal is to stay focused on the bigger picture and trust the process. I often feel as though I’m not doing enough, like I’m not where I want to be in my career yet, I want to have this and that already. But I am understanding that things take time, effort, work, and dedication. And if I keep a steady pace each day at doing that, I’m unstoppable.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Aaris Knoelle Designs story. Tell us more about the business.
Aaris companies fashion brand is named after her first and middle name, “Aaris Knoelle” with the word “Designs” attached to the end. Aaris design style could best be described as Chic though Edgy, Beautiful but Bold, Poise yet Daring. A combination of safe and risky all in one. Through her designs, Aaris Knoelle reveals the two sides most all people have in them; good and bad. Aaris specializes in Evening Wear, Sports Wear, and Custom Designs. Aaris Knoelle is best known for her evening wear designs, which is what she designs and produces the most of. Along with making her own brand collections through each season, Aaris also does custom work for clientele looking for personally made clothing. From Women’s, Men’s, children’s, plus size, you name it, Aaris will be able to customize a garment to your perfect size through her intensive fitting expertise.
The difference between me and other brands or designers is that rather than being a random theme or idea, I create from experience. So like the Poppies are Blooming collection, it shows the imagery of the actual poppy flower in the designs, but in all actuality its purpose is relaying to my mom’s nickname being poppy, her loving the flower and color red along with her fashion sense. Lecky 2.0 relays the evolution of my sister’s life living with autism from the age of two till now. My senior collection being based off the Sydney Opera House and my experience there as a child. Each collection has an underline meaning or insight if you will. Because what else is the purpose of anything if not telling a story. An experience. Just like with music or film, it’s telling a story. And that’s what fashion does for me. I enjoy taking what’s in my brain and translating it to clothing. I love clothing. Being able to express myself and see a product of what I conjured up in my head and thoughts is amazing. And having someone else wear a garment who can understand that same expression as well is very satisfying.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Interestingly… I’ve never really thought about luck when it came to my career in fashion. I do believe in time though. I believe time rules over everything. Lucky things seem to happen because you may have been in the right place at the right time, unlucky things happen when you’re at the wrong place at the wrong time. Some things may happen for a reason, but I think some things happen just by chance. So whether it be good luck, bad luck, meant to be, or coincidental I know fashion designing is what I love to do. As long as I continue to love it my progression as a fashion designer will show it.
