Today we’d like to introduce you to Shandon Guignard.
Shandon, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Wow! How I got started? Believe it or not, I am a licensed cosmetologist and always said I would NEVER DO nails! I even passed on the few nail classes that the course had to offer, it just wasn’t in my view. Clearly, God had an entirely different plan (and sense of humor). How nails eventually came about, was from my beloved mother. Licensed stylist of 30 years, she decided to add nails to her menu and I was a faithful client. One Saturday afternoon, she couldn’t get to me because she scheduled a bridal party. Well, I HAD to have my nails done because I too had an event that night and my nails had to be fabulous right? She said to me, and I quote, “ Shandon you have watched me for three months, do them yourself!” I am a visual learner so I was like ok mother, no problem. Three hours later, I completed an awesome set of nails!! Thus, my career in nails, 28 years later and I wouldn’t change it for anything. Now, as far as makeup goes, I have always been fascinated with vibrant colors and bold lips and seeing the transformation it does for women! In my memory book, senior year, the question was asked where do you see yourself in 15 years and my answer was “doing makeup for the movie stars.” I’ve been doing makeup ever since it’s simply my passion! I’ve been in several salons and have worked with phenomenal people! It wasn’t until about ten years ago, Flawless Finish was born from a bad business decision. (You learn from your mistakes.) Today, I am located in an amazing studio housed inside the Jones Experience Grooming Studio. I offer anything from amazing manicures to relaxing spa pedicures in a pleasant, peaceful atmosphere. Be on the lookout on September 15, 2020, Flawless Finish will be opening for all of DFW to be pampermazed.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Not a smooth road at all! From bad financial decisions, business partners walking out, bad locations I’ve worked in, slow business days, etc. These things come with the territory! You learn from them all, so you won’t do a repeat. Take business classes, find mentors, someone you want to emulate. Invest in yourself. Surround yourself with like minds. Stay focused and positive! Write your vision and make it plain.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Flawless Finish – what should we know?
Believe it or not, to me, my pedicures are my specialties. I use amazetastic natural products that put you in pure bliss, they feel incredible! Also, let my clients tell they love the shape of my acrylic nails! My personality sets me apart! I make you feel like you’re supposed to be in my chair! I love on you from the beginning as if I’ve known you forever! At Flawless Finish, we pride ourselves on healthy nails, no drills allowed, as well as perfecting a long-lasting, quality service. I feel that sets me apart as well from most. Once you meet me, I’m simply unforgettable, lol!
We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
Sometimes, we, as women, can get in our own way by over thinking, talking ourselves out of it or just not having the confidence you should. Well, all of that blocks you from moving forward to where you need to be and until you recognize it and kick it down to get past it and yourself, you can’t lead or move forward!
