Meet Taish Malone, MS LPC of Delicately Balanced Therapy in Arlington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taish Malone, MS LPC.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Taish. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My story began well before completing my Master’s degree; I knew that I wanted to focus on a part of the population that was undeserved and often misunderstood, those whose lives are affected by chronic medical conditions. While in school I made sure I did extensive research and followed through with information in studies and ideals that were all the most relevant to this population. Though I had also gained a great amount of experience in Trauma, Chronic Illness was and still remains my main passion. After securing my full Texas license, I branched off from my supervisor to find where I could make my own mark on the community I wished to help and see more of the type of clients I felt I was destined to serve. I lucked up and found an ideal location which is conveniently close to the Parks Mall and the Highlands of Arlington, Texas. This location allows us to serve clients from Dallas to Fort Worth and all the surrounding cities as well due to our office’s easy access to the most accessible highways. I’m excited about branching into having our tele-counseling services as well, which was implemented with our population of chronic health clients in mind who may find that their mobility compromises their motivation and or ability to speak with their therapist on a regular basis, yet it also allows us to serve clients as far as Austin, Houston, and San Antonio.

Overall, I feel very fortunate to be doing just what I set out to and to feel I am impacting my community in a positive way. Other than providing counselling I am also a motivational speaker/presenter on the topic of chronic illness from a psychological perspective. Both in my private practice and in presenting, I am able to make incremental yet effective strides in supporting the chronic illness population as well as their families and care givers.

I founded Delicately Balanced Therapy on the ideal that everyone deserves help in being able to re-engage in finding their hidden strengths for coping and creating a more balanced existence that will introduce themselves to their greatest potential. I take pride in being able to be part of their journey through that. At Delicately Balanced Therapy we work with individuals, couples, and families in making this vision a reality. Our therapeutic approach in making this possible is by the Solution-Focused Therapy Model.

I was gratefully supervised by a local master of The Solution Focused Brief Therapy model and because it resonated so strongly with me and I had such a great teacher, I have based our methods at Delicately Balanced Therapy on its principals. This is the reason I speak of the value and trust I place on the strengths and abilities of my clients to develop actions which foster a more fulfilling empowered approach to each of their lives which is personal to their own challenges. Our passion and focus on servicing those affected by chronic illness, our ideals, and the therapeutic approach we use, is what I feel sets Delicately Balanced Therapy apart from other practices.

I love to say go with balance after many of my endings and so…to my DFW Community ~Vaya con Balance!~

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There are always hurdles along any road worth traveling. Hurdles in starting my business were Meaning, Money, and Clients. Meaning speaks to just how to convey the dream and vision to the public so that they understand that this is not just an idea this is an ideal. It was important to me to make sure that I was creating a practice that spoke to the core of my passion of helping the rising population of those affected by chronic medical illness. So for me the meaning and how that is portrayed is constantly a challenge because so many don’t understand just why it matters to the overall health and quality of life of those with it and those who are supporters of them as they trudge through it. I named my practice Delicately Balanced Therapy because I respect and wanted convey the importance I placed on helping people find the balance life requires to become the best version of themselves.

Money is always a hug and push sort of relationship when one aspires to transform their passion into a purpose as service. Yes, it is important in building a business because the old adage is true, ‘it takes money to make money.’ I would advise that a business plan be drawn up with the financial aspect of the business discussed and guided by a professional, an accountant preferably. You need someone with an outsider’s perspective many times to focus your vision and make it work for you and for the benefit of those you wish to serve. Though beginning this way is suggested, the financial aspect of a business is a continual elephant in the room so learn to make friends with it and feed it plenty of peanuts or it just might ruin everything.

Clientele is a challenge as well, especially in a budding business. If you are a business that has a niche like we at Delicately Balanced Therapy do, you need to make sure that you also include in your business plan a way to best market to your community so that your clients are privy to your existence. It makes very little sense to have found what you feel is the service of a century and all those who may benefit are oblivious to what might be their next best decision. I found that it was best to be innovative with marketing. I urge niche entrepreneurs to be sure to find a way to urge your particular focused clients, yet not deter others that may be interested and or benefit as well. This like the other two hurdles I spoke of are never ending. In business, you must be willing to be flexible and in any type of service position you must be respondent to the needs of your clients both now and in anticipation of their future. I always say, ‘it is far better to prepare than to not and have to repair.

To my Solution Focused Therapy supervisor who because of his wisdom and guidance made me a better SFBT clinician for long term use with my clients.

Those physicians, practitioners and other health care providers who think outside the box and understand just how important holistic/comprehensive care is to their medical patients deserve my (our) gratitude for their referrals.
