Meet Erica King

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica King.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Erica. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am a native of Atlanta, Georgia, but my mother’s hometown is Dallas. We moved back to Dallas when I was younger in order for my mom to help care for my grandmother when she became ill. I suppose I’ve always had a desire to sing, and modeling came at an early age as well. My first debut with singing was at an airport in California where, as a child, I captured the attention of many travelers with impromptu renditions while waiting to board planes. My brother and I were homeschooled after my fifth-grade year, and I graduated with high honors from A-Beka Academy. I attended Cedar Valley College as a dual-credit student, receiving the honor of being a part of the National Society of High School Scholars at graduation. A Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society recipient through Cedar Valley, I completed my studies at the University of North Texas, Dallas, graduating Cum Laude with a degree in Business Administration. I’d like to think of myself as an entrepreneur with several branches. I love to sing – gospel and inspirational are my favorite genres. Singing the National Anthem is an honor, and I have performed for several venues including the American Airlines Arena for the Dallas Vigilantes, the Globe Life Field for the Texas Rangers on Jackie Robinson Day, the Dr. Pepper Ballpark for the Frisco Roughriders, and at the CoolRay Field for the Gwinnett Stripers… as well as several community ballparks in and around the metroplex. I’m a plus-size model – my most publicized accomplishment was being one of the four finalists in the Torrid model search of 2016. As a brand ambassador, I’ve worked with Missee of London, Divatress of Chicago, Swag Boutique of Atlanta, Legacy Lace Wigs of Flowermound, and 10-Hours of Fashion of Arlington. Having the “power of a persuasive female,” I have increased sales with Dior, Mac, Anastasia of Beverly Hills, and the Ulta brands. Having worked in theater for several years, I have always completed my own make-up looks. I continued the pursuit of make-up artistry with international certifications through CIMA, IAP, and IMA. Having several career opportunities, I continue to travel from New York to Georgia, Florida, Louisiana, and California; using Texas as a resting hub. My desire is to inspire women around the world to find their passion, live life to the fullest, never settle, and to feel beautiful inside and out. I love amusement parks, traveling, festivals, good food, and great laughs!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Yes! Although there have been challenges in my life God has blessed me to make it through each and every one. I have dealt with the passing of both my grandmother and grandfather. My mother experiencing divorce. Learning how to adapt and adjust to being a business owner in the midst of struggling with personal self-doubt and fear of failure. Entrepreneurship is never a smooth road but the success, in the end, is what makes it all worth it.
Please tell us about Erica King Worldwide.
Wow, let’s see… Torrid has given me the platform for notoriety as a fashion plus model. Singing at various churches have given me much support as both a singer and model. I’d like to feel I am pretty good in makeup artistry and repeat referral has men the mainstay for that genre of business for me. I believe that being gifted and always striving for personal excellence is what makes me stand out the most. Each of my businesses has helped create and shape my brand, known as Erica King worldwide. It’s challenging to be a businesswoman wearing several hats in many realms of entertainment and beauty, but I manage by the grace of God!

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Haha! (smile) Singing in the talent show back home in Atlanta. My kindergarten teacher really believed in me and it as wonderful having that kind of support and encouragement at such a young age. She really pushed me in being a great performer and genuinely wanted me to be the best I could be. She was not only my teacher, but she was very protective of me and I consider her a friend today. She holds a very special place in my heart!
