Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Herrold.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always been interested in skincare and makeup. I used to watch my Grandmother put on her makeup, paint her nails, and color her own hair. I was fascinated! After working in an office environment for several years…I decided to follow my passion and enroll in school to become an Aesthetician. One of the best decisions of my life! After finishing school, I worked at Maximum FX salon and spa in Austin for 3 years. I performed facials, waxing, and makeup. Learning new techniques, and tricks of the trade from my coworker/manager/mentor Tess. Having to move to Dallas in 2004 for my husband’s job… I found a job as a head Aesthetician and helped open Nailbar in West Village. After 3 and 1/2 years, I decided I wanted to be out on my own. September 2009, I opened Joy of Waxing…8 years later…I’m still going strong.
Has it been a smooth road?
With great support from my husband, family, and friends it has been an amazing experience. It took a good year to build my clientele, but once I did my business took off. I’m very blessed and fortunate to have such amazing clients. A good attitude is one of the key ingredients to a successful business.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Joy of Waxing story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in full body waxing, spray tanning, eyebrow/eyelash tinting, makeup application, and facials. I’m most proud of building my business from the ground up and being open 7 years running. What sets me apart from others is many things… I’m the owner, service provider, when you make an appointment I’m the only person you will see. I have late hours, morning hours, and I work one Sat. a month. I use hard wax for more sensitive areas. It shrinks wraps the hair, hardens, and I peel the wax off. It’s a lot less abrasive than strip wax. I’m located in a fabulous older building in the Turtle Creek uptown area of Dallas.
