Thanks for sharing your story with us Latish. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have always been a person who wanted to help people become better individuals. In 2001, I dedicated myself to achieving a college degree in Sociology from Winston-Salem State University. My hope was to understand people’s behaviors and to know more about surrounding resources, so I can assist in getting them the help they needed. My passion grew even more when my mother became ill while in school and I was able to help her obtain the resources she needed. I believe during this time I was able to find a purpose and joy for helping people. I simply wanted to share this joy in my heart with everyone.
During my childhood years, I was picked on, and probably even bullied. I didn’t let that bother me much, although at times I did find myself trying to cover up what I thought were my imperfections. Once I came to the reality of understanding who I belonged to and knowing that God made me perfect in his eyesight, that chapter was closed. Now, I wanted to share this joy with everyone.
I’ve always loved to do hair for family and friends. When we relocated here from North Carolina about seven years ago, my husband encouraged me to pursue my cosmetology license and to start my own business. He has always been my biggest supporter even when I would give him every negative response to why I couldn’t do hair for a living. I stepped out on faith and haven’t looked back ever since.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, I wouldn’t say this journey has been smooth. I have had days in which I felt like giving up. You know the days when you have no one on the schedule, no shows, and everyone cancels at the last minute. Starting a new business truly has its share of highs and lows. I would often ask the question, “how do I market myself (business) as an African American stylist to all ethnic groups?” Will anyone trust me with their hair? Especially outside my ethnic background. Where do I start? My plan for overcoming this obstacle of not being stopped in this fear was to educate myself continuously on all hair textures. Now, having patience and drive helped me to obtain and serve clients of all races and hair textures. I still today struggle to not compare myself to other stylist but being an African-American female and trying to break the barriers of societies’ stereotypes can be hard. I feel confident if I continue to position my business as a multi-diverse salon, continue to further my education and to continue to joyfully help provide each client with services that best meet their hair care needs, I will obtain success in this industry.
Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
With every Miracle, I believe there is joy. At my salon, “Miracles Joy” (A Christian company) I believe God has anointed my hands to be a master designer to perform miracles in hair styling and maintaining healthy hair.
Everyone knows me for providing amazing smoothing treatments and blowouts, transforming all textures from frizzy to smooth silky hair. I am an experienced national educator/ trainer for two elite brands, experienced with all hair textures.
I pride my salon as being attentive to helping anyone in beautifying their hair’s outward appearance, providing one with a customized service based on their hair care needs.
Our hope is to provide a comforting and healing touch with the best hair regimen for an individual’s lifestyle while restoring joy and personal confidence to a person’s soul.

My belief relies on God. Setting goals, digging deep and pressing forward has been the key to positioning myself and my business for success. Along with my career, I have had the opportunity to meet several individuals that have provided words of encouragement and have been a great inspiration. But at the end of the day, I give all credit to My Heavenly Father.
