So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started doing nails about seven years ago. I was a single mom of three, attending community college, and working an $8.50 receptionist job at the time. I was at the point in my life where I was bearly making ends meet and wanted something better for myself and my children. I decided to drop out of community college and enroll in a beauty school instead. At the time, I felt like it was the right decision although I am a big believer in education. It was one of the hardest decision I had to make in my life because going to school did not pay the bills, but going to work did. I was reluctant on my decision because I felt without the proper education I might be stuck working an $8.50 job for the rest of my life. I put faith in myself and God and have not looked back since.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Being in the nail industry definitely has not been the smoothest road, but it honestly has been the most rewarding. I learned alot in advancing my career and met so many great people along the way.
Please tell us about Vip Nails and Spa.
Vip nails and spa is known for our VIP package. The VIP package includes manicure and pedicure treatment. The VIP manicure comes with a warm soapy soak, cuticle trim, nail cut and file, buff, a sugar scrub, hot towels, hot paraffin wax, and a massage along with a fresh polish or buff shine. The VIP pedicure includes Epsom salt for soaking of the feet, cuticle trim, nail cut, and file, buff, a sugar scrub of your preference, a mud mask of your preference, hot towels, paraffin wax, hot stone massage, and fresh polish or buff shine application. Fragrance includes lavender, rose, mint, milk, and honey, cucumber, mandarin orange, or fresh aloe vera. What my company is most proud of is using fresh ingredients in our services. I specialize in manicure, pedicures, gel nails and lash extensions, but the salon offers much more.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, what I would have done differently was to start earlier and work even harder. I learned life is about lessons, trials, and tribulations along with sacrifices. Finding happiness is the most important thing to me in life and once you find your happiness, nothing else really matters or feel as good.
