Today we’d like to introduce you to Jim Chamblee.
Jim, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I begin at D-BAT Lewisville in 2009 when it first opened as a manager/instructor. I helped run the daily operations of the business as well as performed one on one instruction. In 2011, I left for a full-time job elsewhere but stayed on as a part time instructor. I continued that for several years until coming back in 2014 to serve as the general manager under new management. It has been a good transition for me personally and allowed me the flexibility to continue to coach both my boys in youth baseball. We strive to create a culture where kids and parents will not only receive good customer service but also quality instruction. From the recreational player to the professional player, D-BAT Lewisville has something to offer everyone.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been a challenging road I think would be the best way to describe it. We have grown over the years and space has been an issue at times. We have renovated once and added more square footage with more cages. That was about 3 years ago now and we are getting to that point again. All good problems to have of course. The indoor batting cage business has also grown the last few years with the explosion of youth sports a travel ball. New places are popping up so there is more competition out there these days. The way kids train has become more year around for their particular sport no matter what age. We have to keep up and offer programs that fit what the customer needs. It can be overwhelming at times but when you provide a quality service people will keep coming back.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Our company is an indoor baseball and softball academy. We offer professional instructor, cage rentals, token machines, camps and clinics, birthday parties, and a fully stocked pro shop. Our specialty is our professional instruction and training programs. That is what we are most known for. I think what we are most proud of here at D-BAT Lewisville is the quality of our instructors and staff as well as the level of service that we provide to each and every customer. That is what sets us apart from other facilities. Our service goes well beyond the walls of our facility.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was a fun loving kid that developed a love for the game of baseball. I played several other sports but baseball always came so easy and I decided to stick with that through high school and beyond. I went to college on a baseball scholarship and was lucky enough to get an opportunity to play professionally for 10 years. I eventually settled down in the North Texas area once done playing baseball and begin to be involved in the baseball scene here locally. It’s in my DNA. If I’m not coaching it, I’m watching it on TV all the time. I can’t get enough. I enjoy being around kids and baseball. I’m a big kid myself. I guess you kind of have to if you want to work at a place like this.
