Meet Jennifer and Christopher Zoll of Neurological Recovery Center in Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer and Christopher Zoll.

Jennifer and Christopher, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Our clinic was created by the owners, Bruce and Lee Ann Conti after their 19-year-old son suffered from an anoxic brain injury in 2013. Bruce wanted his son to have every opportunity to recover and improve function. After a year of intensive traditional therapy in their home, we decided to open a Neuro focused outpatient physical therapy clinic with specialized robotic equipment to improve function and build neuroplasticity in the brain.

What we thought would start out as a small “boutique” clinic quickly grew into a dynamic, innovative therapy center that people travel from all over Texas to come to. We recently moved to a 13,000 square foot facility in order to accommodate the growing demand and treatment schedule. We currently have over 115 patients and continue to grow daily. We have never done any official outside marketing. All of our business has come via word of mouth, social media, and a few key doctors that have been happy with the progress we make with their clients.

We have created a one stop shop for our patients and will continue to add services that will help improve quality of life and functional mobility. We are always striving to find the latest and greatest in rehabilitation technology. We are beginning research projects with our virtual reality systems and will be a testing site with some of the most innovative robotic companies out there with an emphasis on neuro recovery.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There are always challenges when starting a new business. We have run into road blocks with insurance contracts and fair reimbursement rates.

We continue to search for contracts that meet our needs as well as our patients needs for continued care.

We are always researching different avenues for therapy and recovery.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Neurological Recovery Center – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are a specialized outpatient physical therapy company that focuses on patients with neurological deficits. We have the most advanced technology available including: Lokomat robotic gait systems that service adults and children, as well as robotic hands/arms, body weight support systems, foot drop systems, virtual reality, and many other amenities that set us apart from the rest. We service adults and children with many different diagnoses including, but not limited to: spinal cord injury, traumatic/anoxic brain injury, strokes, cerebral palsy, developmental delay, Rett Syndrome, MS, and Parkinson’s,

We have an in-house acupuncturist who focuses on bowel and bladder return as well as, strengthening, and spasticity. We have a massage therapist on staff 5 days a week that is a complement to our therapy sessions, she works on myofascial release, massage, and cranio sacral techniques to help improve circulation, range of motion, and function. We have recently added a yoga instructor to our team, whose focus is on deep breathing, relaxation, and stretching.

I am most proud of the hope our clinic provides to our patients and the relationships we build. Our patients are here for the long haul, and we are not limited to insurance requirements and plateaus as we allow maintenance programs as well as private pay options so people can continue on their journey to recovery. The bond between our patients and our therapists are like family. We all support one another, and participate in many social activities together: indoor skydiving, water skiing, birthday parties etc. We pride ourselves on the family atmosphere and support system each one of our clients and therapists have for one another.

We see almost anyone that walks through the door and have the technology available to ease patient and therapist burden as our machines can do most of our “heavy lifting.” That allows me as a therapist the freedom to use my hands and body to work on head control, posture, and gait mechanics. We use our robotic machines as an adjunct to traditional therapy sessions to help our patients recover faster and get upright quicker.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Fall of this year brings new and exciting things for NRC.

We have partnered with Victory Equine Center and plan on building a climate controlled horse arena to do hippotherapy in with our patients. It is proven to improve core stability, head control, patient motivation, and help with behavioral/emotional problems as well.

We are also opening a 16×60′ heated pool so we can focus on aquatic therapy and its unweighting properties. We have 4 therapists that are ATRIC certified and we are looking forward to seeing where this new amenity will lead us with our patients.

Last but not least we are opening a non-profit VA center in the same building that focuses on recovery for our veterans and service members.

We are very excited about these new ventures and how it will further our patient’s recovery.
