Today we’d like to introduce you to Babs Banwo.
Babs, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
While there are many artists emerging from the developing Dallas music industry, few artists possess the unique talents and creativity that Banwo does. Banwo is an up-and-coming artist in the Hip-Hop and Pop music genre. His music contains a truly special blend of sounds, styles, and influences. Together these skills, along with his incredible passion for making music, are sure to make him the hottest artist to emerge within the next few months!
As a Nigeria native, Banwo came to the United States when he was seven years old. By this time, he had already soaked up a significant portion of his native culture. He had learned to speak his native language, Yoruba, something that would define his voice and artistic expression for years to come.
After arriving in the United States, Banwo learned to express this voice through music. Inspired by major US artists like Michael Jackson, Kanye West, and Lil Wayne, he entered the world of music at the age of 9 when he learned to play the drums. A year later, at the age of 10, Banwo began to experiment with singing and creating his own rap verses that mimicked Lil Wayne’s creative and fast-paced style. This experimentation, along with the combined love and support of his family and friends, opened the door to a life of musical expression. Now, at the age of 24, Banwo is entirely focused on his music. Not only is he a successful artist, but he is also CEO of the “Banwo Music” Record Label.
Earlier in his career, the balancing act between his two cultures made it difficult to decide which genre could best reflect his artistic expression. As he matured, Banwo began to experiment and blend genres together to create a sound entirely unique to his music. The result is a blend of Hip-Hop artistry that is surrounded by Pop melodies. At the same time, Banwo is also seamlessly integrating his two cultures, between the United States and Nigeria, in a way that perfectly complements the music. He does so by using his creativity with the English language to compliment the rhythm of his native tongue, and the musical sound Banwo has developed in his earlier work. As a result, the record will be the perfect medium for fans of Pop, Hip-hop, and R&B!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. After struggling to balance between working a day job and focus on music, Banwo resorted to quitting his day job and turned to focus on music. A few months later he moved to Houston, Texas and due to no employment or income, he went broke to his last dollar. Banwo was then forced to take advantage of the busy tax season and start a tax business in Houston, Texas where he raised funds to release his up-coming self-titled debut album “Banwo LP.”
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Banwo Music – what should we know?
Banwo Music is a Record Label and Production company based in Dallas, Texas owned by local entrepreneur and recording artist Babs Banwo. We specialize in coaching, artist development, marketing, and management. We basically train young up and coming artist in what it takes to excel in the booming music industry. We are currently known for the work of our CEO Babs Banwo whom has been on the rise since the release of his single “She Ya Savage” featuring local standout Chicago artist Solo E. Banwo is set to hit the ground running first with plans to release his debut self titled album “Banwo LP” this fall. As a company, we are most proud of how quickly we have been able to learn the music industry to the point that we have been able to educate other local artist and keep them away from the mistakes we made earlier in our careers. What sets us apart from other artist development agencies and production companies is that we feel we are genuinely looking to help these young artists rather than just using them for their talent or the amount of income they can bring in for us. We as a company are looking to help fellow artists change their lives and teach them to use their talents in a way that will be fruitful not only for them but as well as their families for years to come. We educate young artist at an early age how to earn income with their music, help them with artist development, teach them mental strength, and even help them financially by training how to properly invest their funds for the long run.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
We feel our success is most depended on our image and how we treat our team because if they are not happy with the way they are treated, they will always speak out and word is bond. Others will not want to work with us after hearing someone else was done wrongfully, so as long as we are taking care of our team and keeping them happy, we should continue to succeed and grow our empire.
