Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittani Wilkins.
Brittani, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My professional career is grounded in marketing and communications, specializing in digital advertising, promotions, media relations, writing/editing, broadcast journalism (sports/entertainment), and event planning spanning over a decade.
Growing up, I knew I wanted to explore all of my passions and find a career path that would cater to the things I loved: marketing, writing, TV/production and dance. After graduating from the University of North Texas, I started my professional career as an editorial assistant working for DERMASCOPE Magazine, while simultaneously working as a part-time sports reporter covering the Dallas Mavericks for D210 Sports.
While working in sports, I was able to network with a lot of amazing people, allowing me to land my dream job working front office for the Dallas Mavericks’ digital team. Over the span of four years, I was able to be mentored by the late Ken Bonzon (Mavs former Chief Technology Officer), who expanded my interests in the digital marketing realm. After leaving the Mavs to pursue another exciting opportunity, I had the chance to work alongside many entrepreneurs, providing my knowledge in digital and traditional marketing as they worked to enhance their brands.
Currently, I work full-time as the Digital Marketing Specialist for Venterra Realty, a leader in the multifamily and property management industry. In addition to working at Venterra, I’m also on the production team for north Dallas’ largest National Dance Day celebration, Dallas Hip Hop DanceFest, working also on sister events including Legacy Hip Hop Convention and HYPE Choreographer’s Showcase. Occasionally, I’ll have the opportunity to work as an independent marketing consultant, TV personality, model, dancer, and social media influencer as well.
Thus far, my professional career has brought so much joy and excitement to my personal and professional journey. I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to work with some of the most amazing individuals and, what’s crazy is, I feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface. I look forward to exploring new avenues in the future, all rooted in the things I love!
Has it been a smooth road?
There is never an easy path to anything that’s worthy of something. Trying to get my foot in the door working in the sports/entertainment industry was definitely challenging and there was a lot of uncertainty and hearing the word “no” as I was trying to break in and pursue my passion. I’ve always been a go-getter and determined to reach my goals no matter the obstacles I faced and so, ultimately, it’s about remaining confident and, when you get the opportunity to prove your talent, knocking ’em dead.
