Meet Nikki Washington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Washington.

Nikki, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, my journey in the literary world began when I discovered a love for reading and writing at the age of 9-years-old. It would be at the tender age of 13, that I would begin to write screenplays, short stories, and songs, as a means of exploring my creative side. While attending college, I received several awards and scholarships including a Literary Scholarship, as well as, Business Leadership Honors. She graduated with a B.A. and M.A. in Religious Studies with concentrations in Biblical Counseling from Luther Rice University & Seminary. Some years later, I would see the manifestation of my creativity in the form of penning serval books, blogs and self-help guides. Currently, I serve as a leader in various capacities within the community, most notably as a speaker, content creator, Podcaster and minister.

Armed with my testimony of purity, I travel while sharing the message of hope and self-worth to youth and single adults alike. In addition, I previously founded and oversaw the day-to-day operations of notable Christian publication, Glow Magazine -US. Presently, I reside in Dallas, Texas where I serve as a full-time Project Manager for a globally recognized Not-for-Profit organization. I’m passionate about culture, purpose, and lifestyle, and hosts the weekly podcast, “Let Me Find Out,” which is dedicated to tackling those topics and empowering women to use their voices to affect change. At the end of the day, I have the heart to see people transformed and lives changed through the sharing of the message of love and hope of Jesus Christ.

Has it been a smooth road?
The road has been far from smooth, as I’ve seen the closing of a business as well as a shift in my entrepreneurial model. Particularly when I chose to close the doors of my magazine, I discovered the grit that can only be manifested when one has to start over again. It was during those times, that I learned three valuable lessons. First, the closing of one physical business doesn’t mean the nullifying of a purpose. God gives us a distinct calling, although the outlet may shift and the veneer of it may change over time. Secondly, I discovered that infrastructure is critical to charting a sustainable path for success. Lastly, I learned that the difference between those that “do” and those that “don’t” is simply fortitude. Sticking it out at all cost is the difference maker when getting to our own individual, “wins.”

Tell us about your work What do you do, what do you specialize in?
I am a public speaker, author, and podcaster. I specialize in speaking on purpose, achieving goals, and well living. I’m most proud of the many lives that I have been graced to reached as a result of the talks that I have given and content, shared.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I love best about Dallas is that there is something for everyone. From hailing the largest Arts District in the nation, to our Deep Elum community, to the culture and the rich history, Dallas is a mecca for diversity, far beyond the usual stereotypes we see on television.
