Meet Kendra Sibley of I am Lady Kendra in Lewisville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendra Sibley.

Kendra, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Okay yes, let me tell you a bit about what I do and how I started. I currently am a Freelance Celebrity photographer, Makeup Artist, Plus-size Model, Actress, Author, Fashion Influencer, Blogger, Travel specialist, Model Consultant, CEO of LA VIBE magazine, Texas Notary and the list goes on, I started in the photography world about nine years ago just picked it up as hobby. It quickly became a passion so I purchased some professional photography equipment and the rest is history. My Images have been published in several magazines including Essence Magazine. Few may know that I am a survivor of Domestic abuse and unfortunately, that was the beginning stages of perfecting my makeup skills. I often had to cover up bruises on my face so I learned to be creative early on. So that was a blessing in disguise and at the end of the day, God will always get the glory out of every situation. I in turn added makeup services to my photography packages which generated more income. I expanded the makeup service and now offer wedding makeup and several other services that include makeovers, parties and classes as well. This led me to the Fashion Industry, where I started Modeling myself. I’ve since connected with several Awesome Individuals whom I’ve the pleasure of working with and shooting for. Meanwhile, I realized that everything I loved and had a passion for including my hobbies all tied together in some way. Hobbies were I loved to Travel, Decorate, Dress and just CREATE. This all led to Blogging because I love to be informative and share what I know or what I’ve learned. That in turn led to my new baby LA VIBE MAGAZINE. I am currently in the process of writing a book which name I can’t disclose right now.
Launching in October 2019

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s not been smooth at all. There is a lot of struggles in this industry. With photography being a male-dominated field, I had to struggle for respect as a photographer period. I had to struggle to get equally compensated for my work and honestly, I still struggle with that. I’ve learned to move in silence, learn, educate myself and invest in my crafts and let my work speak for itself and in doing that I’ve been blessed with some amazing opportunities just recently being credentialed to shoot WNBA team Dallas Wings. Sports photography women are non-existent so this experience gives me the opportunity to open more doors for minority photographers in media. Modeling struggles are being rejected for being too short!!!!! I’m plus petite. They want the plus-size models to be tall so I struggle with that a lot. It does not discourage me because the way the industry is changing now is the time to press forward. Society wants to see a reflection of them which is complete diversity. I believe its going to happen in the very near future. Trust is always a struggle in anything you do. I find you have to be very careful who you associate yourself with because it can make or break your brand. So I am very meticulous who I work with and who I serve with the talents I’ve been blessed with.
