Meet Joshua Anderson of Joshwae’ in Central Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Anderson.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started getting into fashion as early as the age 6. I recall my mother getting ready for Sunday Morning service and going in her closet and picking out different outfits. She would pull and put stuff together from different pieces and it always intrigued me. It sparked an interest and I began to draw and design clothes. Though I was very afraid of what people would think growing up, I had the opportunity to learn how to sew, but I didn’t. I choose the most masculine thing to do at that time in my mind to fit in was automotive and woodworking. I enjoyed woodworking because I wanted to be an architect, but it was nothing like fashion that had my heart. In high school, all I knew was church. So the only sense of fashion at that time I had was church clothes. The other high school students would wear name brands clothes and my family didn’t by those type of clothes for me but they did buy church clothes and so as creative as I was, I put together things with what I had and wore my church suits, slacks, and my favorite piece my grandfather gave me, my “inspector gadget” trench coat. Fashion had my heart even at that time I didn’t quite comprehend what it really was. It was who I am.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it had not always been easy for me. I’ve lost my house, and car before and so much more because I prioritize my dream over reality. I had to suffer the consequences many of times but at this point in my life, I would do it all over again now that I know what I have become today. It is said that you have to lose some to gain some and that’s has been my testimony.
