Today we’d like to introduce you to Bianca Rodriguez.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Bianca. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I graduated high school in 2013 and then, went to UTA that fall. During my first semester there, I realized I could afford the cost of a university and decided to take a year off. Eventually, I realized that I did not want to go back to a university or really didn’t want to go to a community college. My cousin, who was also my roommate at the time suggested cosmetology school. I had always been in love with doing my hair and playing with makeup. I scheduled a tour of Ogle and immediately fell in love! A month after finishing school, I got my license and began as an assistant at my dream salon, The Mod Labb. I just celebrated my three year anniversary and I can’t wait to celebrate many more!
Has it been a smooth road?
When I first started at The Mod Labb, I struggled a lot. I wasn’t used to the fast pace and I was super nervous because it was literally my dream salon. I always second-guessed myself and I felt like I would never be as good as the girls I was working with, but thank you to my team I got over that feeling. My boss Jake, and all the other girls have always encouraged me and helped improve my skill. They were never hesitant to teach and share their knowledge and I am so grateful for that. They have helped me become the stylist I am today.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a senior stylist and specialize in balayage on ethnic hair, anything from Hispanic, Asian, Indian, and many more. Being a Latina myself, I know that it is hard for someone with naturally dark hair to get super blonde, and keeping it healthy at the same time. My team and I have learned how to deal with the hardest transformations and have been able to give women the hair they’ve always dreamed about without compromising it. Our team is made of so many different women and men that have learned a craft they love and love sharing it. We grow with each other and uplift one another.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Dallas is an awesome area for hairstylists of any kind. It is so diverse and there are so many people, the possibilities are endless! For someone starting out, my biggest recommendation is finding an apprenticeship and definitely continued education! This city and the fashion changes constantly, keeping up with the trends is a must!
