Meet Lauren Miller of Small Town Home & Decor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Miller.

Lauren, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
We officially opened our storefront in June of 2019. As an online-only store for a full two years prior to opening our doors, we were able to establish a following that now allows us to ship all across the country. We purchased and renovated an old Seed & Grain building in downtown Whitewright Texas that we now call home for our new business venture… Our new building functions as a lighting showroom while also featuring furniture pieces, hardware, home decor and gift items. My father-in-law, Tony Miller, is the owner of Tony Miller Construction and utilizes the design office for his homeowners in our building as well. It’s because of the growth and success of his lifelong business that gave us the idea to venture out and create what is now Small Town Home & Decor. Over the years, his eye for design and beautiful builds, provided us with the foundation to create a company where we essentially would be hand-picking items that would be used in not only our homeowner’s homes but in the homes of our customers across the US.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Once we decided to create a storefront, there is obviously a lot of transition from an online store to a physical presence in your new space. Starting any business can be incredibly stressful. You constantly feel as if there are not enough hours in the day and some days you go home feeling like you accomplished nothing. Trying to navigate the ins and outs of running your own store is definitely tough the first few months, even the first few years. It can be challenging to not get caught up in all the downtimes and compare your success or failures to that of others.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Small Town Home & Decor – what should we know?
We offer items that can truly make your house feel like home. From light fixtures that make an effortless statement, to beautifully hand-crafted furniture, holiday decor and accent pieces. We try to stage all of our collections so that when our customers come in they can instantly visualize our pieces in their home. I’m extremely proud of all the hard work we put into creating a unique space that really has that “wow” factor as soon as you walk in the door. We wanted our building to feel different and captivating but still maintain the original exterior and completely transforming the interior to coincide with all the new trends we are seeing in the homes we are building.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
There are so many people I could thank. You have supporters, friends, family, teammates, your staff, etc. to help you succeed. This business wouldn’t exist without Tony Miller. He purchased the building, had a true vision for the remodel and together we created Small Town Home & Decor. My husband, family and friends have also always encouraged and cheered me on and that makes all the difference when you are venturing into the unknown.

I had the privilege to visit your Whitesboro TX location yesterday and was blown away! As a store owner I recognize passion in the pursuit of perfection and I believe you nailed it. I have witnessed many visual displays from all over in big cities and must say you definitely hold your own. I wish you continued success and thank you for your ongoing inspiration.
